Even though a day is set aside at the end of March to recognize doctors, we are grateful every day for the care and services provided for 27 years by Dr. Joshua Gooden. He might tell us to "skip it," since technically, the official day was yesterday, March 30th. But his team and the community are thankful to you, Dr. Gooden, for all you do to provide excellent eye and vision health care to so many throughout western Kansas.

World Vision Week serves as a reminder that world wide, eye care professionals strive to provide comprehensive eye and vision care services, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnoses and management of diseases in the eye.

Sight is considered to be the most important of the five senses. In fact, the brain receives 80 per cent of its information from the eyes. In a recent national survey, the majority of American's said that losing their vision would affect their lives more than losing memory, speech, hearing, or an arm or a leg.

Dr. Joshua Gooden and his team members at Scott City Eye Center are excited that our world supports your world, and we are right here in western Kansas to serve our patients with excellent eye health care. On Monday, February 23rd, we will close at 1:30 pm, and remain closed for the rest of the afternoon for training. We will be open the remainder of the week, Tuesday through Friday, regular hours. Your eyes are AMAZING! You know that, right? Just in case you had any doubts, here are only 5 out of many, many interesting facts about your incredible peepers!

1. The human eye is an incredibly complex organ, featuring over 2 million working parts and processing 36,000 bits of information hourly. Cool!
2. The eye muscles are the fastest contracting muscles in the body, reacting in less than 1/100th of a second!
3. The retina receives images upside down, and the brain flips them right-side up. Thank you, brain!
4. If the human eye were a digital camera, it would have 576 megapixels! WOW!
5. The average person blinks 15 - 20 times per minute, totaling over 4 million times a year.

Macular degeneration causes a gradual or sudden loss of central vision, resulting in blurry, distorted, or dark spots in the center of the field of view. Common symptoms include straight lines appearing wavy or bent, faded colors, difficulty reading, and trouble recognizing faces, while peripheral vision remains intact. Early detection is crucial, as some treatments can slow or stop the progression of the disease.
