Macular degeneration causes a gradual or sudden loss of central vision, resulting in blurry, distorted, or dark spots in the center of the field of view. Common symptoms include straight lines appearing wavy or bent, faded colors, difficulty reading, and trouble recognizing faces, while peripheral vision remains intact. Early detection is crucial, as some treatments can slow or stop the progression of the disease.

If it's been over 12 months since your last eye exam, or you think you might have the beginning symptoms of macular degeneration, contact Scott City Eye Center today, and we'll schedule an appointment for you. 620-872-0040.

As we roll through the season, you have to admit - everyone loves this guy! He's always happy and jolly, dependable and hard working, and without a doubt, a snappy dresser (including great taste in eyewear!) Note that going back to when St. Nick was first identified as a "giver of gifts," he wore round, wire rimmed frames. And hundreds of years later, to this day, he's still rockin' this stylish look!

Let this be your reminder that December is the "Gift of Sight" month. Scott City Eye Center has an amazing inventory of frames for you to chose from, and like Santa, we'll help you find the perfect pair for you! We're open late on Wednesday - until 7 p.m., and 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday this week.

From Santa, Dr. Gooden and all of us at Scott City Eye Center, we hope your Christmas season is Merry and Bright!

Enjoying the sunshine? We are, too, which reminds us to be sure and protect our eyes from harmful UV rays, still shining down even during the winter months!

Take a tip from Santa and Rudolf and be sure you are wearing good, quality sunglasses! Scott City Eye Center has an excellent selection to choose from, whether the snow is flying or it's a bright, sunny day. We carry Maui Jim, Oakley, Zeal, and Pepe Jeans, just to name a few options! And another reminder - be sure use any remaining FSA/HSA funds on purchases now until the year ends!

We get it Santa! Thanks for the reminder!

Early detection is always your best defense for preventing and managing eye health issues. For this reason, yearly eye examinations are essential.

For those living with diabetes or pre-diabetes, an annual eye exam is important as it offers a simple but effective way to prevent or delay disease and vision loss caused by diabetes. Anyone with diabetes is at risk for diabetes-related eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, as well as glaucoma and cataracts. Diabetic retinopathy is the most common diabetic eye disease and a leading cause of blindness in all American adults. The number of individuals with diabetic retinopathy is predicted to increase by nearly 50% by 2030.

If you have not had a comprehensive examination in over a year, contact Scott City Eye Center to schedule an appointment with Dr. Gooden. Give us a call - 620-872-0040, today.
