Folks it's about control. The packer's and the NCBA have evil intentions. They will try to tell you its about disease control. Almost 20 years ago we could track a mad cow In less than 24 hours. It is 100 percent about the packer's selling their product nothing more. NCBA supports the packerand themselves not the American Rancher or Feedyard operator. Call your local Cattleman's Association and voice your opinion. They are voting on this at this week.

Had an awesome time last week reviewing Hereford Feedout Programs data with fellow Hereford breeders. Thanks to the American Hereford Association for the opportunity to share. Thanks to Trey Befort Garrett Parsons for translating and participating with me.

Know what you’re buying! This picture has home raised beef(left), and home raised beef(right). That’s right! They both are from animals who were born right here on our ranch. Fed by us. Transported to be harvested by us. There is an obvious visible difference between the two. But why?

The first thing you may notice in the picture is the color difference. Although both of these were born and fed the same, they were harvested at two different facilities. Each facility with their own similar, but different process. The way the ground beef is mixed, it’s lean to fat content, and its packaging are just a few factors that determine the pigmentation of the meat. Nevertheless, each is delicious, nutritious, and most importantly SAFE!

But how would this compare to beef you could buy in a grocery store? The fresh meat products in the grocery store are essentially the same as those marketed direct-to-consumer.  Although we do sell beef raised on our ranch direct-to-consumers, most of the beef we produce will end up in grocery stores, restaurants, or even be shipped overseas. Our beef that goes to these other places is just as SAFE, NUTRITIOUS, and DELICIOUS as our beef that goes right into our customers freezers. Just like all of our friends and neighbors who raise beef that will also be marketed to consumers at a grocery store. USDA/FSIS have inspected all of the meat and deemed it safe!

Not every rancher has the means to market their beef direct-to-consumers. Not all consumers have the ability to buy beef direct from a rancher, or don’t want large quantities. And that is all fine!

So here is your reminder that the beef at the grocery store is just as safe and nutritious as beef that you purchase directly from a farmer or rancher. We just want you to eat beef and trust that ranchers are doing the very best we can to raise safe food, take the absolute best care of our animals, protect the wildlife, and preserve the environment.

The more you know!

The 2023 Beef Empire Days was one for the record books - a Hereford steer placed 4th in the carcass contest! A prime, yield grade 2.66 carcass. The Tyson Plant representative specifically called out the steer during the awards ceremony, stating he could tell by the steer’s maturity that he was one of the youngest steers in the entire competition! Congratulations to Hereford breeder, Darrin Reed, Reed Polled Herefords. American Hereford Association

HRC Feed Yards purchased auction item #1 in the Peoples Choice Auction last night and have decided to donate it back for resale at the awards banquet this Friday evening! ALL PROCEEDS from both sales will go to the Travis Pitts Family Medical Fund.

This was one of a consignment of three paintings done by local artist Debra Huber. Debra paints with her fingers and not a brush; the image was the inspiration for graphics and print materials for Beef Empire Days starting in 2018.

Beef Empire Days supports the Travis Pitts family as Travis fights cancer. He is a southwest Kansas native and is raising a young family in Ingalls, Kansas. We know there are many expenses that they deal with. Travis has worked closely with Beef Empire Days, the livestock industry, and many cowboys and cowgirls in the area.

We donate this painting and hope you would love to hang out in your home or office to help such a worthy cause!
