I enjoyed volunteering at the AFK room for Take This during MomoCon. The Take This AFK room is a relaxed space staffed by local volunteers and clinicians for anyone who feels overwhelmed or wants a place that is a respite and to regroup.

Thanks to my fellow Atlanta area mental health therapists, Tiffany Brooks Arriola and Eutoka Quillings-Bland, with whom I volunteered.

As women, especially for women of color, we often put the needs of others first. The expectation on us to be givers and nurturers is immense. It is not helpful for us or the ones we love when we are stressed out and on the edge of exhaustion. Ensuring that we take care of ourselves allows us to better care for others.

Happy Qixi Festival! ♥️Also known as Chinese Valentine's Day or Double Seventh Festival as it is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th month in the lunar calendar.

It originated from a 2000 year old legend of two star-crossed lovers, a weaver and a cow herder (the stars Vega and Altair), who were forbidden by the ruler of heaven to be together and only allowed to meet once a year on a bridge of magpies (the Milky Way).

This festival is celebrated as the Tanabata festival in Japan and Chilseok festival in Korea.

I am excited to be speaking as part of this panel on wellness! As Asian American women, we have been taught to put the needs of our families and communities first, before our own self care. I am looking forward to discussing how taking care of ourselves first helps us to be better at taking care of those we love.
