If you have nagging pain that is preventing you from living your best life there’s a few things that must be considered!

The body while complicated is beautifully designed and does no wrong, it does everything in its power to keep you moving, until it can’t any longer!

While the body might be complicated healing doesn’t t have to be!

Healing most often needs a full body approach, taking into consideration all of the factors that make you human & removing the things that are blocking its ability to heal!

If you feel like you’ve done all of the things to get out of pain and back into action, but are still suffering with nagging pain, it’s time for a different and deeper approach that allows you to connect all the dots and hit strikes with treatment instead of chasing things down one by one!

Low back pain is one of the biggest complaints to walk through my door and most often, it’s not caused by what you would think.

When it comes to food causing inflammation in the body i usually always start with eliminating the 3 big hitters: gluten, diary and sugar

I never want to take people off of meat, fruit or veggies unless it is totally necessary

So we focus on the big 3, eliminating them for 30-90 days to see what improves.

Usually we get massive improvement and help the body heal so that picking out whole foods isn’t necessary.

However if you are someone who suffers from joint pain in more than one joint at a time, we might have to dig a little deeper.

In this case we usually aim to eliminate all the veggies that fall under the nightshade family.

Food sensitivities or food intolerances are different from food allergies but we often hear all of the terms used interchangeably.

However, there is a big difference and it is important to understand it, especially if you have true food allergies!

One thing you know for sure, that even without knowing what the difference is exactly, you know that the food is bothersome to you in some way.

Some people get digestive issues, some people break out in hives, others have more subtle reactions like breaking out in acne a few days later or even eczema over time.

LET’S CHAT BLOOD SUGAR ROLLER COASTER⁣
🎢⁣
You know what I’m talking about. You take too long to eat a meal, you get 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐑𝐘, sweaty, lightheaded, irritable & your brain stops working.⁣

You then go ham on some food & 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐁𝐒𝐒𝐒 because your brain needs glucose asap!⁣

After, you’re not only stuffed full but feel so much better now that your brain can function again…⁣

Then about 30mins to 1 hour after you 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡 & 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝.⁣

You’re exhausted, ready for a nap, maybe have some brain fog and you’re ready to call it a day!⁣

When your blood sugar takes a nosedive, your adrenals have to fire out 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐥 to help regulate the blood sugar to bring it back up to normal levels to keep you going. ⁣

If your blood sugar is constantly crashing throughout the day, that demand takes a toll on your adrenals to be in high gear, as blood sugar dysregulation is a huge stress to your body, it starts a vicious cycle. ⁣

Or chances are due to some other lifestyle factors the cycle has already started, making this roller coaster a little more complicated to get off of because it’s surrounded by 🔥FIRE 🔥(inflammation)🔥⁣

It is stored in muscles as glycogen and is used for energy!⁣

Walking for just 10 - 30 mins after each meal will increase the uptake of glucose out of the blood and into the muscles, lowering your blood sugar immediately.

This also helps increase insulin sensitivity, meaning that your body will more effectively utilize the sugar & get it out of the blood faster.

The amazing thing about having a solid amount of muscle mass is that trained muscle has a higher capacity for glucose storage, meaning it can take more out of the blood & faster, helping lower your blood sugar back to normal.

This also means that depending on the intensity and duration of exercise, your blood sugar regulation can be optimized & you’ll have more flexibility with your nutrition (macros) and create metabolic resilience.⁣

𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐫:⁣

Stop putting food in your mouth that is lighting your body on fire!

If you have joint pain, achy muscles & poor recovery, look at what you’re fueling your body with!

Food is fuel. Simple as that!

Now, I’m not talking about the every so often celebrations!

I’m talking about the everyday, what you choose to fuel your body with for breakfast, lunch & dinner! Because what you do everyday matters more than what you do every once in a while!

Consistency is key!

You have a choice every day to make sure the food you are eating is properly fueling, healing & optimizing your body & your health goals.

If you are constantly eating food that is inflammatory, you’re lighting up your insides with every bite and it’s wreaking havoc on your gut, brain, joints and more!

By eating inflammatory foods, you’re pushing your immune system into overdrive trying to put out a fire that you are constantly fueling.

Your body doesn’t have enough resources to save your vital organs and repair your shoulder or knee at the same time.

Top Things To Avoid:
🔥Sugar
🔥Gluten
🔥Alcohol
🔥Dairy
🔥Anything processed or packaged
🔥Known Food Intolerances. Tested or not tested, if you know that eating something is going to make you feel terrible, give you a headache or hurt your stomach. Do NOT EAT IT!

🎉Party Tip: If you are asked to bring a plate or dessert to a party, be the one who brings the veggie tray (trust me, it will be the first thing gone) or a dessert not full of sugar & gluten (plenty of amazing free recipes online & non one will know the difference). Bring something that you feel comfortable & good about eating, knowing that it won’t derail your plans or progress while still enjoying the event.

We’re going to cover blood sugar’s effect on joint pain & why it prevents people from being active & doing what they love!

Arthritis = joint inflammation

Arthro- = joint

- itis = inflammation & inflammation causes pain!

What do arthritis & dysregulated blood sugar have in common???

→ you guessed it...INFLAMMATION!!

I mentioned previously that sugar is a pro-inflammatory food which means it causes inflammation in the body to varying degrees but one of the things it’s going to exacerbate when consumed, is any inflammation already existing in the body &/or add to it, causing new issues to arise!

With chronic pain & inflammation, the inflammatory response occurs too often &/or for too long!

When you continue to add insults to the body such as eating inflammatory foods such as sugar or have too much sugar floating around in the blood (Dysregulation) the body constantly has to call upon the immune system to come in & repair the inflamed tissues and unfortunately, your knee pain is the least of your body’s concern.

If the consumption of sugar & deregulated blood suagr is greater than the body’s ability to heal, long term damage occurs to the tissues, increasing the Arthritis already existing and most definitely increasing the joint pain.

Simply cutting sugar consumption & regulating your blood sugar will drastically decrease your joint pain.

As for the Arthritis, we have lots of options for treating the joint & damaged tissues but it’s always going to start with what you are consuming.

Decrease your sugar intake = Decrease your pain → Greatly Increase the outcomes of every other treatment you receive moving forward.

Is your morning cup of joe setting you off on your daily blood sugar roller coaster ride??

A number of things happen when you consume caffeine.

Caffeine is a stimulant to the central nervous system (brain) which:

🧠Increases serotonin & dopamine (feel good hormones) —> also how you crash later

🧠 Increases release of adrenaline from adrenals —> fight or flight response —> release glucose from liver —> more glucose in blood to boost energy —> increase blood sugar levels if not used

🧠 Increase release of cortisol (stress hormone) for adrenals —> increase blood sugar

🧠 Decrease insulin sensitivity —> more glucose remains in your blood

That’s a lot of reactions based just on one cup of black coffee.

Now imagine how much your blood sugar increases with all the added creamer, fake sugars like pumpkin spice and white mocha pumps added to it.

There have been a number of studies showing the benefits of adding fat like grass-fed butter or MCT oil/powder to help slow down the absorption of the caffeine.

Others have shown the difference between eating breakfast with your coffee or having coffee after you eat.

Everyone is different depending on how regulated your blood sugar is to begin with but it’s worth exploring & doing an experiment to determine when it’s best for you to have your coffee and in what way.
