Detective by day, champion by discipline.

She just crushed her latest bikini competition bringing home a 1st, 2nd, and 4th place finish! Every single time she steps on stage, she brings a better version of herself. Her physique, her confidence, her poise—it just keeps getting more unstoppable.

A common misconception about heavy weight training, especially among women, is that lifting heavy weight will lead to a bulky looking physique. It’s true that lifting heavy will promote hypertrophy in muscles leading to a size increase. However, the idea that it leads to a “bulky” look is untrue.

The true culprit that leads to bulky physiques is fat accumulation. Excessive body fat is what causes both men & women to look bulky.

The most important aspect of someone’s physique is his or her body fat percentage. A good physique nearly always requires a fairly low body fat percentage to achieve. Lifting heavy can help accomplish this.

Heavy weight training has a plethora of benefits that can help develop muscle, shed fat & ultimately lead to anyone’s desired physique.

Here are some of the benefits of lifting heavy:
* Stronger muscles, tendons and ligaments leading to more stable joints and overall movement
* Increase in muscle size (greater in men than women)
* Decrease in body fat due to burning calories and favorable hormonal balance
* Increase in bone density
* Increase in production of neurotransmitters leading to better mood and balanced state of mind
* Improved physical coordination. It is important to keep in mind that any exercise regimen is only as good as the diet that goes along with it. In terms of physique changes, diet accounts for far more than the exercise itself. Obviously, you must weight train to build muscle, but it will all be for naught if your diet is not also dialed in.

My lovely ladies there is NOTHING wrong with picking up some weights! The stigma that you will get “buff” or “bulky” is such a misunderstood notion. I know almost matter of factually that women want to be TONED , or they want to “tone up” don’t even tell me you’ve never heard or thought that! Well i’m here to break the news to you that just like Beyonce claimed “A little sweat never hurt ‘no body” neither did a little weight lifting!

In order to lose fat and get rid of the “bulk,” a cutting diet is required. In simple terms, this requires you to burn more calories than you eat. There is much more to the process, but in a nutshell, eat healthy and eat less.

While there can be certain hormone imbalances that can affect energy expenditure through BMR (thyroid) these can be corrected. The reality is people want an excuse that doesn't involve their own choices.

You can build muscle at any age. You can lose fat at any age.

The research shows your metabolism doesn't slow until around age 70 (yes this includes every phase of menopause) & that's likely just because most people become less active .

Be honest with yourself. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you exercising consistently? Are you being diligent with your nutrition? Are you being CONSISTENT with all those?

RESPONSIBILITY and SELF OWNERSHIP is FREEDOM. Stop giving up your power. YOU have the CONTROL , you have the POWER to change things.

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘You are what you eat’? This phrase is the notion that to be fit and healthy you need to eat good food.

Nutrients from the foods we eat provide the foundation of the structure, function, and wholeness of every little cell in our body, from the skin & hair to the muscles, bones, digestive & immune systems. We may not feel it, but we’re constantly repairing, healing & rebuilding our body.

Every cell in our body has a “shelf life” – a stomach cell lives about a day or two, a skin cell about a month, & a red blood cell about 4 months. So, every day, our body is busy making new cells to replace those that have “expired.” & how healthy those new cells are is directly determined by how well we’ve been eating. A diet filled w/ highly processed food that’s low on nutrients doesn’t give our body much to work with. But a clean, nutrient rich, whole foods eating plan can help us build cells that work better & are less susceptible to premature aging & disease.

Remember, you are what you eat. So, fuel your body w/ the right foods, & it will reward you for making healthy choices. Healthy food leads to a healthy body, which, in turn, increases your odds of a longer, happier life.
