Here is an arm care routine that will help build rotator cuff strength and arm coordination. This is a perfect set of exercises for any athlete looking to strengthen and protect their shoulders.

1. High Pull to ER: pull the scapula down and together. Freeze the upper arm in place at shoulder level as you rotate your hands so that your palms would are facing the forward. Reverse the motion

2. Functional ER: This motion should be done in a controlled and fluid motion. The exercise video breaks down the two movements that are combined. Shoulder should be down and back. Squeeze your elbow lightly to your side as you rotate your arm out as far as you can. Punch your arm out just below shoulder level. Reverse the motion.

3. Follow Through: Position lower body in a split stance. With the opposite arm to the foot in front bring your arm up and back like you are going to throw a ball. You should have your scapula squeeze towards mid line and down to assist the arm movement. Control the eccentric movement as you bring your arm in a diagonal arc forward as if you were throwing a ball..

4. Banded Shoulder Flexion/ABduction: With your shoulders staying down and back lift the band to chest height. In a controlled motion arms separate till they are shoulder level directly out from your sides. Reverse the motion.

Marissa is an amazing full-time physical therapy technician! She does a great job at assisting our clients through their exercise programs, proper cuing, explaining the why, and helping everyone have fun doing it!

Marissa played competitive club volleyball throughout grade school and played on her high school varsity team for four years. Playing volleyball competitively planted the seed of her love for sports and fitness. She then became intrigued by the behind-the-scenes work. The gym became her playground to not only challenge herself, but to become unique in developing challenging strategies for others. Because of this passion, she is currently in the process of obtaining her personal training certification.

Marissa began working at DPR in August of 2023 as a physical therapy tech. She is currently studying to attain a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Once this is achieved, she will be pursuing her doctorate in physical therapy. Marissa is passionate about helping others heal. She understands all the emotions and obstacles that can come from this process. Her highly competitive background in sports makes her a talented coach when working with athletes. She is motivated to help others reach their goals, even if they seem like small successes.

In her free time, Marissa enjoys attending professional sport games including Suns, D-backs, and the AZ Cardinals. Her father was her main motivator to participate in and watch football; she now plays flag football. Marissa enjoys pushing her limits working out at the gym. She also enjoys playing video games, some of her favorites are Fortnite, Call of Duty, and NBA 2k.
