Some people think that Heaven is on another planet. Others feel Heaven is just a dominion in the clouds free of boundaries and gravity to only the clouds giving the ability to “walk on clouds”. Some think that it is merely a dimension that we cannot quite imagine, for it is different, yet the same as earth.
No one has the exact answer. No one who lives on earth knows exactly what will happen in heaven. No one knows exactly how angels will be acting, saying or doing. We can put pieces of the puzzle together based on people who have briefly crossed over and sampled a portion of the “edge of heaven” and returned to live a changed life because they were so impressed as to what they experienced.
The day my father died, I visited him in the hospital. He was lucid, alert and telling jokes.
Knowing my spiritual side, he said, “You know Karen, we are not alone. I’m not on drugs or pain killers and I know what I see. There are three persons who are standing at the foot of my bed. There are two men and one woman. They are dressed in white. They know who I am but I don’t recognize them. Perhaps someone I knew a long time ago. They stand there and then in one second, they are right next to my face then in the next second, they are at the foot of the bed. They are pointing to a lit path on the floor going out the door. It is a white path lined with flowers and outside the door is a light. They want me to follow them.” He looked at me to see my reaction.
I said, “Dad, those are your guides. They are angels, but you can’t go yet. Everyone is coming to see you and on Saturday we are going to have a big bar b que at the house. They can visit with you but you can’t go yet. Okay?”
“Well, sometimes it’s best that people remember you the way you were. I don’t want the grandkids to see me like this. I can’t walk. My legs won’t hold me.”
“That’s ok dad. We love you. We just want to be with you.”
His last words to me were, “Well, we’ll see but I think they want me to go with them.” He passed away that night when I left.
I have no answer for you other than what I experienced after a surgery this past year. I felt like I had left my body and I was hovering above it in the corner of a hospital room. I could see everything. I could see my body. I closed my eyes and felt like I was floating in a gray mist.
I could see a bright light, but I wasn’t moving towards it. Instead, I felt the presence of people coming next to me in the fog and I could hear them but I could not see them yet. Above a voice I could only imagine was the Lord’s voice, I thought for a second that I heard my father say ‘it was not my time yet and I had to go back’.
I thought I saw a ring of angel’s faces in white above me calling to me. When I opened my eyes, their faces morphed to a ring of faces smiling and calling my name. They were all dressed in navy blue. I recognized them immediately as the nurses in the hospital.
Had I experienced the edge of Heaven’s boundaryless dominion? Had I witnessed angels? In my mind, yes, but suddenly it made me realize why I had experienced so many miracles collaborating with people in Family History.
The experience bore witness to me that the work we are doing is indeed so important to our experience on earth and that we should never lose sight of the fact that great people came before us and that they are waiting for our return to heaven. They are waiting for us to do the ordinances that they did not or were not able to perform when in their earthly body. As proxies for them, we can do the work and they can or choose not to, accept them as their own work so that they can be sealed to their family forever.
So, this book is a combination of things I have witnessed and a little creative license as to the actions of Angels and Archangels for your amusement. It is not the official theory of heaven by virtue of the church I belong to. I have changed the names but many of the situations are those that actually happened and we felt the presence of angels as they were visiting. In the past twenty years of working with family history, I have met the most amazing people and I have seen a mighty change in their lives. Their countenance has changed. They are inspired and blessed by what they have experienced.
