Interdisciplinary Collaboration is a must to care for society's health and wellness. This is what the American Physical Therapy Association had just published:

Monday, April 29, 20195 Ways to Get Up to Speed on Interprofessional Health Care in Education and Practice Working across health care disciplines isn't a pipe dream: it's an increasingly important fact of professional life for physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapists assistants (PTAs). No real news other than making our community stronger. Knowing that shoulder issues usually point to other dysfunctional areas in the body is important in rehabilitation. In this article, IS THERE A RELATION BETWEEN SHOULDER DYSFUNCTION AND CORE INSTABILITY? authors report "greater shoulder dysfunction is correlated with greater balance and stability deficiency." I love research that supports obvious considerations that might be a stretch of the imagination for some individuals.

FOLLOW UP:👨‍⚕️
In the recovery stage of shoulder injuries, it is important to:
▫️Take the TIME to heal❗
▫️Consult a therapist👩‍⚕️
▫️Follow your doctors orders📋
Even after you've been cleared for activity, there is always risk of re-injury. For this reason, patients often use extra precaution while performing overhead exercises, in vigorous activities, and in everyday use.
CLIENT HIGHLIGHT:
A client was seeking therapy for injury prevention, and we found that after receiving therapy for an injury years earlier, it was not rehabilitated fully and was not fully functional. We strengthened the joint and gave it proper after care therapy, giving the client confidence in the integrity of the joint going forward.
BE SURE TO:
▫️Educate yourself on your strengths/weaknesses💪
▫️Continue healthy lifestyle habits 🏊‍
▫️Maintain the integrity of the joint 👍

Topic: Separated shoulder/Labral tear

Causes: Head of the humerus is much larger than the socket it lies in (glenoid fossa). The fibrous ring of tissue called the labrum is what holds the humerus in the glenoid fossa. A labral tear can occur is the shoulder is dislocated, sudden force with arm extended, or overuse in weight lifting, throwing sports, and overhead sports.

Symptoms: Catching, locking, or popping in the shoulder. Pain at night, especially while lying on the affected shoulder

Evaluation: Sports medicine or Orthopedic doctors will obtain imaging, but a torn labrum will be diagnosed best with an MRI with contrast dye injected into the joint.

Treatment: Rehabilitation to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles and improve flexibility and aleviate stress on the joint. Surgical intervention may be needed.

LET’S TALK SLEEP!! There are several individuals that deal with snoring issues. What people tend to dismiss is that snoring can be an indicator of mild sleep apnea. Sleep apnea has immediate effects on your life, but studies have shown it to have more serious effects later in life. 😴Impaired sleep is detrimental to your overall health and wellness. This generally increases stress levels, hinders relationships, and raises the chances of illness. 🤧

GOOD NEWS: You don’t have to go through a sleep study to be eligible for help! 😁 There are FDA approved mouth pieces, such as , that will hold your mouth in a position to open your airway for improved breathing and better sleep. 🛌

IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP! If you, or your partner, are suffering with these issues, research a doctor and company that will work best for you! 🌙
