🧄 Sneaky Sources: Flu-Fighting Foods

Garlic may be small, but it’s one of the most powerful everyday foods for immune support.

Fresh garlic contains allicin, a sulfur compound that supports the body’s natural defenses.

✨ Simple Garlic Boost:
* Crush or finely chop 1 garlic clove
* Let sit for 10 minutes
* Mix with olive oil + lemon
* Spoon over veggies, soup, or toast

Simple, warming, and easy to add when your immune system needs backup.
👉 Save this for cold + flu season.

Dry January doesn’t have to feel restrictive — especially for people navigating cancer.

This mocktail is designed to support hydration, steadier blood sugar, and sensitive systems, without the sugar spike or acidity of traditional “juice-based” drinks.

Gentle Winter Citrus Hydration Spritz 🌿

Ingredients:
• 1½ oz citrus juice, diluted 1:1 with water
(blood orange, cara cara, or mandarin)
• ½ oz rosemary-infused honey or maple water
• Optional: ¼ oz fresh lemon (skip if sensitive)
• Plain mineral water
• Ice (optional)
• Garnish: rosemary sprig or orange peel

How to make:
1. Combine diluted citrus + rosemary infusion in a glass
2. Add ice if desired
3. Top with mineral water
4. Garnish + sip slowly

Why we love it:
• Hydration without sugar overload
• Mineral support without additives
• Gentle flavor that still feels intentional
If citrus feels like too much, swap in pear juice diluted 1:2 for an even softer option.
Small, supportive choices count. 🌿🍊

January doesn’t need a reset.
It needs realistic expectations.

For people going through cancer treatment, energy isn’t something you “push through.” It’s something you budget.

An energy budget means recognizing that your body is already doing important work—healing, repairing, adapting—and there’s only so much to spend each day.

🧠 Ask yourself:
• What drains me most right now?
• What actually restores me?
• Where can I say no to protect a yes?

This isn’t about doing less.
It’s about spending your energy where it matters most—on healing, stability, and small moments of peace.

The new year can be quiet.
That counts, too.

Cabbage — The Underrated Immune Veg
🥬 Sneaky Sources: Flu-Fighting Foods

✨ Simple Warm Cabbage Bowl:
* Sauté shredded cabbage in olive oil
* Add garlic + sea salt
* Finish with lemon or apple cider vinegar
Comforting, affordable, and quietly powerful during flu season.
👉 Save this as an easy side to support winter resilience.

If January feels harder than you thought it would, pause before blaming yourself.

After the holidays—and especially while navigating cancer treatment—your body may still be completing recovery.

Fatigue, brain fog, and a need for earlier nights aren’t signs of failure. They’re signs your system is recalibrating after a high-demand season.

You don’t need to push harder to “get back on track.”
You need space to let recovery finish.

January doesn’t require momentum.
It requires honesty with your energy.

“What if cancer didn’t stop your life—just changed how you lived it?”
Doug Harmon was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in 2020.
He’d never smoked.
He was told at one point, “We can’t help you anymore.”
Five years later, Doug is still here—playing pickleball, running his business, traveling, adapting, and living.
In this Patient Perspectives episode of Rubin On Point, Doug shares what it’s really like to live with metastatic cancer:
• navigating fear and uncertainty
• choosing quality of life
• finding the right team
• trusting yourself when opinions conflict
This isn’t about toxic positivity.
It’s about resilience, honesty, and staying human.

Before you set new goals, pause.

Notice what’s already working.

Consistency — not intensity — is what creates real change.

You need sustained support, steady rhythms, and habits that feel doable.

That’s how change becomes something you can actually live with.

As the year closes, take a breath.

Your body carried you through more than you realize.
Instead of resolutions, try reflection:

• What did your body handle?
• What habit genuinely helped you?
• What are you ready to let go of?

No pressure. Just presence.
Your next chapter starts with awareness. ✨
