Attention all moms! Whether you’re breastfeeding or not, taking care of your health is crucial for both you and your little one. Nutrients in breastmilk are pulled from mom’s nutrient stores, so making sure you’re replenishing those vitamins and minerals is super important. Most of us aren’t able to get what we need from diet alone, so here are the recommended daily supplements. (This is also recommended if you’re not nursing….I take these every day, too!).
*Sidenote* Not all supplements are created equal! My favorite brands are Nordic Naturals, Pure Encapsulations, Klaire Labs and Thorne.
1. Prenatal or Multi-Vitamin: Finish your prenatal and then switch to a multi. I like Pure Encapsulations ONE multivitamin.
2. Omega 3 Fatty Acid w/ DHA and EPA: Aim for at least 300-600mg DHA per day. This helps with brain health and can also help with Postpartum depression.
3. Vitamin D: Babies will only get enough Vitamin D from breastmilk if mom takes 6,400iu/day. You can get this from your multivitamin or prenatal + a 5,000 iu daily supplement. If you can’t take this every day, you can give your baby Vitamin D drops.
4. B complex Vitamin: Supports brain development and red blood cell production. A B-Complex from any of these brands would be perfect.
5. Probiotic: Supports gut health for mom and baby. I like Klaire Labs Therbiotic Complete.
6. Calcium: Helps with bone health. Aim for 1,000-1,500mg/day.
