Lung cancer doesn't usually present severe symptoms in early stages, making it a silent but lethal disease. This was the case for Gretta C. Despite having quit smoking in 2002, a chest X-ray revealed a spot on her lung, leading to a diagnosis of stage I adenocarcinoma.🩺

Gretta's journey took a hopeful turn when she underwent a minimally invasive robotic surgery at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, performed by thoracic surgeon Dr. Richard Gillespie. This innovative procedure offers patients quicker recovery time, less time under anesthesia, and a less invasive experience overall.

Go back in time to see HonorHealth's history in Scottsdale 🏥

In 1962, the one-story City Hospital of Scottsdale opened at 7400 E. Osborn Road to serve the healthcare needs of 10,000 people.

Today, HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center's campus encompasses 303 beds, comprehensive services, a Level I Trauma Center, and one of the nation's only military training programs at a civilian hospital.

In 1984, Scottsdale Shea Medical Center opened to serve central Scottsdale. With 427 beds, the medical center is easily accessed from Loop 101. It offers a wide range of comprehensive services, including labor & delivery, a level III NICU, renowned cancer center, and the HonorHealth Research Institute.

In 2007, Thompson Peak Medical Center opened even further north to support the needs of a city that now has 240,000+ residents. This 120-bed full-service hospital offers exceptional medical, surgical, and a recent multi-million-dollar expansion of emergency care services.

Last week, members of HonorHealth's FIRST Peoples People Resource Group (PRG) attended the Native American Basketball Invitational College & Career Fair. Our FIRST Peoples members connected with 1,400+ Indigenous student-athletes representing over 120 tribal communities in the world, to promote careers in healthcare.

The PRGs at HonorHealth are voluntary, employee-led groups whose aim is to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace and provide education, advancement and advocacy for all interested team members. FIRST Peoples is made up of team members from various indigenous backgrounds, including Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians. They are dedicated to creating a sense of belonging and community for all Indigenous team members and the patients we serve.

Today, we held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of our latest healthcare facility, HonorHealth Complete Care, in Paradise Valley.

Located at 5316 East Shea Boulevard, HonorHealth Complete Care will officially open on Tuesday, July 25. The dual care retail model provides convenient access to a full-service emergency room and urgent care under one roof. The facility includes full X-ray, CT scan and laboratory testing capabilities.

Earlier this year, HonorHealth broke ground on an exciting expansion at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center. The project involves the construction of a new state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Center of Excellence that will create a complete ecosystem dedicated to treating patients with heart and vascular conditions of all complexities.

The expansion will also include a cardiovascular ambulatory surgery center, a cardiac intensive care unit for complex and life-saving care, new patient rooms equipped with technology for a variety of heart and vascular conditions, along with a remodel of existing cardiac units and a new lobby.

HonorHealth will purchase the remaining interest in 26 urgent care centers in Arizona from FastMed Urgent Care. These urgent cares are currently operated under a joint venture relationship between FastMed and HonorHealth.

“HonorHealth is committed to delivering high-quality, accessible care,” said Todd LaPorte, CEO, HonorHealth. “Through this acquisition, our patients will continue to have access to urgent care services that are close to where they live and work. Now those services will be more tightly aligned and integrated with HonorHealth’s six acute-care hospitals, physician practices, outpatient surgery centers and other network services.”

HonorHealth already independently operates seven urgent care locations throughout the Valley and plans to continue to invest in healthcare services to meet the needs of growing communities in Arizona.
