Here's how you can support this important campaign

It’s a real possibility. The FDA would love to pull compounding options away from all of us. Please read.

Here's how you can support this important campaign This step-by-step guide provides information on what physicians can do to voice their support for patient access to compounded hormones.

It has been a tough year for a lot of people, and our youth have felt a lot of the effects but without the tools to deal with and talk about their anxiety. Dr Mark Su is bringing Drs Rhea Chase and Leah Guterman together in a zoom conference to give you tips and tools. Dr Su is accepting donations to offset his expense in bringing this program together. I hope if you need something like this you will join the program on Thursday at 4:30pm PST. Details in the attached flyer.

FDA: “Bioidenticals are Public Health Concern” ...We Need to Protect Compounded Bioidentical Hormones!

August 12, 2020

Please share your story! We need to collect as many positive stories about cBHRT as possible before the FDA decides to ban these crucial hormones and our quality of life! Please send your testimonial right away to Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding at [email protected], you can also e-mail to [email protected] !

We appreciate your support!

The FDA’s *announcement*
https://www.fda.gov/drugs/human-drug-compounding/national-academies-science-engineering-and-medicine-nasem-study-clinical-utility-treating-patients regarding bioidentical hormones came just hours after the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) released their *report* https://www.nationalacademies.org/our-work/clinical-utility-of-treating-patients-with-compounded-bioidentical-hormone-replacement-therapy reviewing the “clinical utility” of compounded bioidentical hormone therapy (cBHT).
Because the report views the widespread use of cBHT as a public health concern, the FDA will likely move fast to ban these critical medicines. It is imperative that we mobilize a strong grassroot response to meet this threat and save access to estriol and other compounded hormones.
The agency has latched onto this false conclusion from a report it commissioned, and it is another direct threat to estriol and compounded bioidentical hormones’ future.

To quote the FDA’s announcement on the report release: “Given the lack of high-quality clinical evidence and minimal oversight of cBHT, NASEM concluded that their wide-spread use poses a public health concern.”

This has no factual basis at all. A *review* https://www.researchgate.net/publication/23959867_The_Bioidentical_Hormone_Debate_Are_Bioidentical_Hormones_Estradiol_Estriol_and_Progesterone_Safer_or_More_Efficacious_than_Commonly_Used_Synthetic_Versions_in_Hormone_Replacement_Therapy of the clinical literature concluded that bioidentical hormones are associated with lower risks, including the risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease, and are more effective than synthetic or animal-derived hormones. What seems to be underway is an attempt to create drug company monopolies. The result may be that women may not be able to obtain estriol at all, even
though estriol protects against cancer.

The report’s conclusion deals a real blow to the future of patient access to cBHT, but it is hardly a surprise. We said before that the FDA *stacked the deck* https://anh-usa.org/fda-rigs-process-against-estriol-other-bioidenticals/ against cBHT as the NASEM committee was gathering information. It’s no surprise that the recommendations and conclusions of the report mirror the FDA’s interests.

Specifically, the committee’s recommendations include:
- Restricting cBHT use to patients with a documented allergy to an ingredient in FDA approved BHT products or a documented requirement for different dosage form.
- Patient preference alone is not enough to justify cBHT use.
- cBHT doses should not exceed FDA-approved product dosages.
- The FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) should review select hormones for the Difficult to Compound list, including estradiol, estrone, estradiol, progesterone, estriol, testosterone, and the pellet dosage form.
- The federal government and State Boards of Pharmacy should expand and improve oversight of 503A “traditional” pharmacies to ensure quality standards for every cBHT preparation dispensed.

Again and again in the report, members of the NASEM committee acknowledged that many women express a distinct preference for cBHT, but that this wasn’t enough to justify its use. We can only expect the FDA to parrot this message. It’s a clear signal: we know better than women and their doctors. This is government paternalism at its worst, and it cannot be allowed to stand.

To briefly recap how we got here: estriol and other bioidentical hormones have been nominated to the FDA’s Demonstrably Difficult to Compound List; items that appear on the list when it is final will no longer be able to be made at compounding pharmacies. ANH-USA and other stakeholders pushed back forcefully against the nomination of estriol and other compounded hormones, so the FDA convened a NASEM committee to study cBHT and aid in the agency’s final determination. Our interpretation: the FDA wants to ban hormones but
knew they couldn’t do it quietly due to the large consumer response, so they commissioned NASEM to study the matter and give them cover to ban these hormones.

The FDA still has hurdles to overcome before a ban can be issued: the agency has to issue a proposed rulemaking to add these hormones to the Difficult to Compound List. It’s also possible that the FDA issues draft guidance that restricts the use of cBHT as outlined by NASEM’s recommendations.

The time to send a clear message to Congress and the FDA is now. We beat the FDA when they tried to ban estriol in 2008, and we can beat them again, but only if the entire community rises up and holds the agency’s feet to the fire. We cannot let the federal government interfere with women’s health.

Attacking estriol and compounded hormones is just one of the ways the FDA and the federal government bolster drug monopolies and undermine natural health options. The FDA is trying to create insurmountable barriers to access homeopathic medicines. The FDA and FTC and some state’s attorneys general have also recently told doctors they can’t advise both their patients and the public about natural prevention and treatment for COVID-19. This is unacceptable.

We must demand that Congress reform a healthcare system that not only bars the use, but even the mention, of natural remedies like compounded bioidentical hormones.

Action Alert! Write to Congress and the FDA, telling them that patients have a right to choose the medicines right for them, including cBHT. Please send your message immediately.

Drug Disposal: Dispose "Non-Flush List" Medicine in Trash

Do you have any Ranitidine (generic Zantac) at home? Testing is finding that the older the medication is and if it has been exposed to warm temperatures, can have higher amounts of NMDA (a potential cancer causing agent). Since there are not "Take Back" sites, you can dispose of them by putting in a plastic bag with dirt, coffee grounds, cat litter, basically anything unappealing and sealing the bag and placing in your trash. https://www.fda.gov/drugs/disposal-unused-medicines-what-you-should-know/drug-disposal-dispose-non-flush-list-medicine-trash

I love Alton Brown's scientific approach to cooking. He made a PSA for hand washing with explanations. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/rnI0PHIFEMA

ABs Handwashing Tutorial Alton Brown presents a brief public service announcement for these troubling times.

With all the closures of schools, activities, etc, please keep in mind those that are losing their livelihood because of actions beyond their control. If you are keeping your little kids/babies home because you are no longer working outside of your home, keep the daycare workers in mind. They are the ones that lose without a safety net. Same thing with your massage therapist if you are practicing "social distancing". Maybe help them with a gift card or a percentage of what you paid for their services because they aren't able to readily make up their losses.

If you are tired of singing Happy Birthday to make sure you wash your hands for the recommended 30 seconds, try using https://washyourlyrics.com. This site will put the lyrics from one of your favorite songs into a hand washing technique poster. Have fun! I chose Build Me Up Buttercup by The Foundation.

I have pulled information from a couple of different sources regarding the Corona Virus COVID-19.

The China CDC’s stance, “ we understand that the virus is most dangerous to those who are immunocompromised, elderly, and those who have cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hepatitis B, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, and cancer.”
China CDC’s analysis of 44,672 patients found that the fatality rate in patients who reported no other health conditions was 0.9%. in addition, 81% of all diagnosed cases were considered mild or asymptomatic.
Italy and Japan appear to show lower mortality rate than China however, statistics are not yet available. Angelo Borrelli, the head of the civil protection agency in Italy, stated “What is comforting is that 50% of the 258 people who tested positive (in the last 24 hours) have no symptoms or are being looked after at home." This is promising as it points to the fact that many more people that do not have symptoms may be infected with the virus than are being reported. If this is the case, we may have a lower mortality rate than the statistics are showing.
*Thanks to the Environmental Health Symposium for pulling the above statistics*
And a voice of reason:
“I'm a doctor & an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria... there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared.
I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over & continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, & disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19.
What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers & instead are being donned in airports, malls, & coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear & suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they " probably don't have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know..." and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia & strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors & nurses to assess.
I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed & family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games... that could be kyboshed too. Can you even imagine?
I'm scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business & otherwise & ultimately culminate in a global recession.
But mostly, I'm scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness & altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary & self-interested.
Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors & "fight for yourself above all else" attitude could prove disastrous.
I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene & limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let's meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, & above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts & knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation & catastrophizing.
💥FACTS not fear. 🧼CLEAN 🤲🏻Hands. Open ♥️HEART.
Our children will thank us for it..”

Please use techniques we know will help stop or slow the spread of the virus. Wash your hands, if you feel sick, take care of yourself and don’t go into public spaces to spread your viruses. Minimize contact with elderly or immunocompromised patients if you are unwell, as they are the most vulnerable. Listen to the facts and don’t create or spread more panic.

Yours in health,
Mixtures Pharmacy

Written by Dr Suzanne Garza, MD
"Today is World Earth day and on behalf of all of ISEAI, I would like to give honor to Rachel Carson ((May 27, 1907–April 14, 1964) who catalyzed the modern day environmental movement thru her book, "Silent Spring". She was a woman without a PhD or an academic affiliation , but, she was a brilliant scientist whose voice became the most powerful in the land to shed light on the darkness of the destructive public policies motivated by self interests and corporations unmoored to morality .

As you recall, DDT was brought 'home' after WW 2 and the toxic chemical was called a miracle chemical. I can still recall my classmates chasing after the DDT truck engulfed in the cloud of toxins. A sort of blind faith emerged with no one wondering what might be the health consequences to humans and nature.

"Silent Spring", is a courageous expose of the pesticide industry illustrating the profound interconnectedness of nature . "It stunned and sobered humanity’s moral imagination, effecting a tidal wave of unprecedented citizen concern, with consequences reaching across popular culture and policy, leading to the creation of Earth Day and the founding of the Environmental Protection Agency. "

And, the more and more she learned thru her decade of research left her no choice but to publish her findings despite the waves of propaganda to discredit her revelations and her character.

She writes to her beloved "“Knowing what I do, there would be no future peace for me if I kept silent,”

We honor you Rachel Carson and we proudly will carry the baton forward

In gratitude

“Hey farmer farmer — / Put away the DDT / Give me spots on my apples, / but leave me the birds and the bees. / Please!” lyrics from Big Yellow Taxi Joni Mitchell 1967
