Physical therapy degree from the University of North Dakota (1990)

Trained in the Mackenzie approach for the assessment and treatment of the spine

LSVT for the treatment of Parkinson’s. I was certified and treating Parkinson’s patients for the past 15 years. FAFS – Fellowship in Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute. This is a 40 week course in biomechanics. Completed in 2018 and returned in 2019 and 2022 as a play-coach-mate. FSTT- Functional Soft Tissue Transformation certification. This is education in the fascia (connective tissue) that runs throughout our body.

3-D MAPS certification – Three Dimensional Movement Analysis and Performance System. Further training in assessment of movement. Currently enrolled in a course to become a Functional Golf Specialist. In early 2017 I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. This motivated me to further my education. I knew I had to be the best physical therapist I could be, so that my patient’s would look past my shaking. That is why I pursued extensive training in biomechanics through the Gray Institute. FAFS changed the way I treat my patients. I have never been a fan of “no pain no gain”. We need to stress the body but we do not need to cause pain to be successful. I want my patients to work from success meaning, execute movements safely without causing pain. By assessing a patient in all three planes of motion, it is rare that you cannot find movements that can be successful. I believe every one of us is different and respond differently to movements. Our bodies are chain reactions. If a person has an injury, they are interrupting the chain of motion. This causes extra strain on other areas of the body. Which can then cause painful symptoms in other places. I have a small gym that I work one on one with my patients. There is no one else in the gym during our session. I use a minimal amount of equipment. I have found that patients respond better doing exercises that are functional. That is what gets them back to their activities.

As a physical therapist with over 30 years of experience, and as someone who lives with Parkinson’s, I have found 3DMAPS® to be an invaluable tool in my work with Parkinson's patients. Its unique approach to evaluating, treating, and training focuses on real-life, functional movements, which is critical for individuals with Parkinson’s who face challenges in mobility, balance, and overall movement quality.

What sets 3DMAPS® apart is its ability to analyze movement in all three planes, uncovering hidden deficits that traditional assessments may miss. This comprehensive perspective allows me to design treatment and training strategies that not only address my patients' specific needs but also empower them to regain confidence and independence in their daily lives.

For anyone working with Parkinson’s patients—or any population—who seeks a practical, effective system for improving outcomes, 3DMAPS® is a game-changer. It’s a cornerstone of my practice and a key to enhancing the quality of life for those I have the privilege to serve.

PD Care Connection in Partnership
With the Gray Institute
One Day Workshop, March 12, 2025

Description
3DMAPS (3D Movement Analysis & Performance System) is the most innovative way to effectively analyze and enhance the entire body in an efficient, revealing, and evidence-based manner. This certification equips you, the movement professional, with the content, competence, and confidence to meet the needs, wants, and goals of all of your patients and clients. Unlike any other movement screen, 3DMAPS is a movement analysis and performance system that applies to the three-dimensionality and abilities of all individuals and all of human function. 3DMAPS boils down all of human movement (the three-dimensional interaction of joints, muscles, and proprioceptors) into 6 Vital Transformational Zones, adapts these movements within Mobility Analysis Movements (assessing range of motion) and Stability Analysis Movements (assessing control of motion) and empowers you to then prioritize the best and most logical progressions in serving your patients and clients better.
