Why “ignoring tinnitus” doesn’t work. 🧬

Tinnitus engages the limbic system — the part of the brain responsible for the “fight or flight” response. Over time, that constant cognitive load can lead to exhaustion, anxiety, and even depression.

In this video, Dr. Julie Prutsman explains:
✅ Why tinnitus is closely linked to depression
✅ Why the “just live with it” advice fails so many patients
✅ How specialized care can help restore quality of life

If tinnitus is affecting your daily life, this is an important conversation to hear.

Our Scottsdale team had a great time supporting Tinnitus Awareness at Texas Roadhouse.

All proceeds from the evening went to the American Tinnitus Association, helping support education, research, and advocacy for those living with tinnitus.

We are proud to be part of a community that shows up, supports one another, and helps bring awareness to something that impacts so many lives.

Thank you to Texas Roadhouse and everyone who joined us!

The holidays are joyful… but they can also be loud and that can leave your ears and your energy feeling drained.

Busy restaurants, overlapping conversations, holiday music, clattering dishes… your brain is working overtime to sort it all out. This is very common for anyone with tinnitus, hearing loss, or sound sensitivity.

You may notice:
• Feeling tired or overwhelmed
• Trouble following conversations
• A temporary spike in tinnitus

Nothing is wrong, your brain is simply doing more than usual.

A few holiday hearing tips:
• Take short quiet breaks
• Use gentle background sound
• Pace yourself in noisy rooms

If your ears feel “extra overwhelmed” this season, our Scottsdale team is here to help with a calm, supportive environment and zero holiday music on loop. ❤️

Why Sound Relief?

Hearing health care isn’t just what we do. It’s who we are. Several of our audiologists have tinnitus, a few members of our support staff have hearing loss, and everyone at Sound Relief has family members with hearing loss and/or tinnitus. We share a passion for helping anyone suffering from tinnitus, hyperacusis, hearing loss, and other hearing health issues.

Most providers are owned by a hearing-aid manufacturer or borrow money from them regularly. Others purchase hearing aids through buying groups and must commit to a pre-set quantity. Either scenario presents a conflict of loyalties. We’re proud to be one of the few completely independent practices in Colorado. So we’re not forced to sell a certain product or procedure.

This means our only loyalty is to our patients. Here, we give you all the time you need to share your tinnitus or hearing loss experience. We also make sure to fully answer every question you may have. When patients leave, we want them to be more educated, feel more hopeful, and trust that they’ve truly been heard.

What makes us different is that we specialize in tinnitus. As Colorado’s leading experts, no tinnitus treatment team is ranked higher or referred with more confidence. With the most comprehensive FDA-approved tinnitus treatments anywhere, we’ve helped thousands experience life-changing results.
