Anyone else using AI for custom therapy materials? This podcast has some easy ideas. I used it today by asking ChatGPT to write a story for a second grader about gymnastics using r words. I added some comprehension questions for fun. The possibilities are endless.

This quick reference chart includes options like heavy work, deep breathing and deep pressure to help kids (and adults) calm their bodies and minds. Offering choices is empowering and gives kids the autonomy to choose what feels best to them at the time (which may vary given the day or situation).

PRO TIP: Start using the chart at the first signs of dysregulation- like whining, tension or restlessness. Waiting until your child is in full fight- or- flight mode can make it much harder for them to use the tools effectively. You can also model use of the chart yourself to encourage participation!

Do you know about the dangers of button battery ingestion?

Every year at this time I share my friend Emmett’s story. He ingested a button battery as a baby, unbeknownst to his parents and almost lost his life. Be aware of toys with button batteries, especially around the holidays. Babies, toddlers and even pets can unknowingly eat these.

Button batteries are a hidden danger in gifted toys, and Emmett Rauch swallowed one undergoing more than 60 surgeries, countless days in the hospital, and doctors had to build him a new esophagus.

Love this! Let’s remember to see the talents of ALL kids.

Thanks Right Road Kids.

Hunter Armstrong swam an amazing third leg of the Men’s 4x100m Olympic Freestyle Relay – and he and his USA teammates won gold! Just prior to the start of the race, after sharing that Hunter was added to the relay team last minute, the announcer added that Hunter was a disorganized person. I thought that comment seemed very odd – and disrespectful of someone who was just about to represent our country on one of the largest world stages. I mentioned out loud that I thought the comment seemed strange and out of place. My son, a talented budding sportswriter who always has a pulse on anything and everything sports, was in the room and immediately cleared things up by sharing that Hunter had actually been voted “Most Likely to Miss the Bus” by his Olympic teammates. It was probably an endearing inside joke between teammates that somehow made its way to Twitter. As my son and I were talking about it further, we agreed how important it is that people always REALLY look at the talents of ALL kids. Because… What if coaches would have only seen Hunter’s disorganization and missed his entire talent for swimming because they were only fixated on his organizational capacity? His whole talent for swimming might have been missed! My son said that I should share a post about the importance of really seeing kids for ALL that they are and not just getting frustrated by something they may be challenged by. With the new school year upon us, it really feels like the perfect time for us all to have that thought in our hearts and minds. Cheers to Hunter and the USA Men’s Freestyle Relay Team! And cheers to the awesome talents of ALL kids – and everyone! May we always take time to really get to know each other and see and celebrate each other’s extraordinary talents far beyond what may only appear at the surface. 💙💛🖤💚❤️ Paula
