As I walked into the break room, one of my employees asked me why I always bring my lunch to work. "Is it to save money?" they wondered. I replied that while I'm not entirely sure if it saves money, I do it because I know exactly what I'm eating and how it's prepared. The next day, I bumped into the same employee who was now eating his own prepared food from a glass container. With a smile, he said, "I get it now."

For over 40 years, I've been preparing food for myself and my family, and bringing my own lunch, and it's become a form of meditation and creativity for me, contributing to my overall well-being. In today's world, with uncertainties surrounding the quality, production, and handling of our foods, it's more important than ever to take control of what we consume.

Wishing everyone the best in peace and health!

Healthy regards,
Angelo

"It's ironic how history repeats itself, isn't it? Governments have been prone to inefficiencies and shortcomings since their inception, and unfortunately, not much seems to have changed. It's disheartening to see the same old patterns persist. In times like these, it's crucial to find solace in our loved ones and cherish the moments we have together. Let's focus on embracing our families and friends, finding joy in the simple things, and living each day to the fullest. After all, life is too short to dwell on the negatives. Here's to finding peace and maintaining our health amidst the chaos.
Take care, my friends”

Dear Valued Clients,

As of December 1, 2022, Health Inside Out will be scaling back our clinic in Scottsdale and expanding to Puerto Rico, where we will be opening a new full-service wellness retreat in the very near future. Settled near Aguadilla, a picturesque surf town with palm lined beaches, crystal clear waters, and breathtaking sunset views, we plan to offer an expansive range of wellness services in a tropical bed and breakfast environment.

Therapy Combo Sessions will still be available at our Scottsdale location (upstairs suite) on an appointment only basis beginning again in mid-February 2023, and will be bookable through our website for a few weeks each quarter. We will send an e-mail announcement as soon as we publish available appointment dates to the website for Scottsdale in February 2023.

While in Puerto Rico, I will also be available for wellness coaching and consultations via Zoom and telephone. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or wellness needs you may have.

It has been a pleasure working with each of you here in Scottsdale these last 10 years and I look forward to having many of you visit our new location in Puerto Rico!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of your wellness journey and remember, wellness begins from the inside out.

Blessings,

Angelo Alvarez

Happy Saturday!!
How to Guard Your Energy Bank
In Chinese Medicine, the abdomen is considered the storehouse of the body's essence and energy. You are well advised to carefully guard your energy bank from potential robbers, which include the weather, dietary abuses, insufficient sleep and exhausting physical labor. Keeping the abdomen warm and protected is believed to have important health and longevity benefits. To replenish your energy bank, abdominal wraps soaked in rejuvenating herbal solutions, or pouches containing similar herbs.

Humming-A Sound Health Habit
A good number of people affected by chronic fatigue have been found to have sinus disease, an impairment of normal gas exchange through the sinuses. Now, evidence suggests that humming along with the radio or crooning your favorite songs may help prevent or remedy sinus problems. Studies show that humming improves the out-put of nitric oxide, an indicator of effective sinus function. Also, humming is similar to the traditional practice of chanting, whereby sound waves elicit positive responses from your body and spirit. So, for better airflow and sound health, make a habit of humming on your way to and from work every day.

Take a Nap to Kick a Heart Attack
One of the best ways to lower stress on your heart is to take a nap during the middle of the day. Chinese medicine has observed that, in the body's circadian rhythms, noontime is peak hour for the heart. Therefore, Chinese doctors advise calming activities and rest at this time of the day to maintain the health of the cardiovascular system. Researchers have found that men who napped at least thirty minutes a day were 30% less likely to develop heart disease than those who didn't nap. A siesta is a sign of wisdom, not laziness!!!

Ginger Gives You Snap

Best known in the west for its anti-nausea properties, ginger has probably been in the longest continuous use of any botanical remedy in the world. The Chinese use it for both medicinal and culinary purposes, frequently in cooking seafood, since it acts as a detoxifier to prevent seafood poisoning. Besides its popular application for digestive distress, ginger has been found to contain geraniol, which may be a potent cancer fighter. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve pain, prevent blood clots, and inhibit the onset of migraine headaches. Since ancient times, Chinese physicians have regularly consumed ginger tea to keep their vitality fired up.

Password to a Treasure of Health: Open sesame!

The most common oil consumed by Chinese centenarians, sesame oil is enjoyed for its refined, nutty flavor but possesses therapeutic properties as well. Chinese medicine lists sesame as a kidney and liver tonic, a blood builder and a bowel protector and regulator. Sesame is rich in phytic acid, an antioxidant that may prevent cancer. The oil of one variety, lignin sesame, was found to drastically reduce cholesterol levels in the liver and bloodstream of rats. To enhance flavors and improve health, sprinkle sesame seeds and oil in your food regularly.

"Spend a Moment Every Day Thinking of Someone to Thank
This simple strategy, which may take only a few seconds to complete, has long been one of the most important habits I have ever engaged in. I try to remember to start my day thinking of someone to thank. To me, gratitude and inner peace go hand in hand. The more genuinely grateful I feel for the gift of my life, the more peaceful I feel. Gratitude, then, is worthy of a little practice." Richard Carlson, PH.D.

Whenever you feel bad, you are in the process of attracting something that will not please you. Without exception, the reason for negative emotion is that you are focused upon something you do not want or upon the lack or absence of something that you do want. Whenever you feel negative emotion, you could say to yourself, I'm feeling some negative emotion, which means I'm in the process of attracting something that I do not want. What is it that I do want?

Visualize your life as you want it to be. Go to a quiet, private environment for 15 minutes every day where you can close your eyes and imagine your body, environment, relationships and life in ways that please you. What has been has nothing to do with what will be, and what others experience has nothing to do with your experience... but you must find a way to separate yourself from all the past and from the others in order to be what you want to be.

"The quality of patience goes a long way toward your goal of creating a more peaceful and loving self. The more Patient you are, the more accepting you will be of what is, rather than insisting that life be exactly as you would like it to be. Without patience, life is extremely frustrating. You are easily annoyed, bothered, and irritated. Patience adds a dimension of ease and acceptance to your life." -Richard Carlson, P.H.D

B’s and C’s get an A in Nutrition

When your mother told you to eat your broccoli, she was already looking out for your longevity. Cruciferous vegetables are potent defenders against cancer, the number one killer in industrialized societies. The crucifers are made up of the B’s (broccoli, bok choy and brussel sprouts) and the C’s (cauliflower and cabbage). These vegetables contain phytonutrients that help cleanse the body of cancer causing substances. One of these compounds, indole-3 carbinol, is a powerful anti-estrogen that counters cancerous growth in the estrogen-sensitive cells found in the breast, colon, and prostate. Crucifers are also a good source of beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, folate, and calcium, most of which are also antioxidants.

Weekday Vegetarian, Weekend Carnivore

Vegetarians generally suffer fewer degenerative diseases and cancers than their carnivore cousins. It’s been estimated that a third of all cancer patients developed their disease as a result of insufficient whole plant fiber in their diets. However, you don’t have to give up meat entirely to enjoy the longevity- limiting your intake or eating meat only on weekends is a perfectly balanced and healthy approach.
