Let’s talk about lip aesthetic ideals. 😍🥰😘

What makes lips BEAUTIFUL?
💋 Size
💋 Shape
💋 Symmetry

What makes lips YOUTHFUL?
💋 All of the above

💋 Length of the cutaneous upper lip
- This is the distance between the base of the nose and upper red lip vermillion or border.
- Aging over time causes the cutaneous upper lip to elongate and flatten out, which in turn leads to the red upper lip curling inward and appearing thinner.

💋 Adequate tooth show
- A few millimeters of upper teeth show is considered youthful (I’ve attempted to show this with a slightly exaggerated angled shot).
- While lip aging is often the culprit, factors like individual anatomy and poorly/overly filled lips can also lead to loss of tooth show.

✨ Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Lip aesthetic ideals vary across genders, ethnicities, societies, etc. You might be perfectly content with what your mama gave ya and/or how your lips have stood the test of time. If not, you could consider a deep plane subnasal lip lift, corner lip lift, and/or lip augmentation with injectable fillers for a plump and lifted look.

✨Transformation Tuesday✨ This lovely patient had a deep chemical peel 2 weeks ago. She has fully peeled, with beautiful new skin that is more youthful and blemish free. 😍🥰

Skin erythema, or redness, is normal and expected after a deep peel and will resolve over time. In the meantime, she has excellent coverage with mineral makeup, thanks to the talented (check out her page for more).

Sunny days make for happy days, so I am all smiles. 😃😎

But the sun is *not* our friend, when it comes to premature skin aging and skin cancers. 🙂‍↔️😳

With the peak of summer approaching, here are 4️⃣ tips from a facial plastic surgeon for good SUN PROTECTION:

1. Avoid or limit direct sun exposure ☀️

2. Wear protective clothing with good skin coverage, sun-resistant clothes (yes, it’s a thing), and wide-brimmed hats 👒

3. Wear sunnies that provide 100% UV protection (UV400) against UVA and UVB rays 🕶️

4. Apply (and re-apply) a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher to all exposed skin 🧴
