πPTSD: Breaking the Silenceπ
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects millions of people worldwide, yet it remains widely misunderstood. Let's shed light on this important topic and support those who may be silently struggling. π
π± What is PTSD? PTSD is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Your brain decides how it responds to trauma in 3 ways. Fight, Flight or Freeze. You have no control how your brain will respond. Traumatic experiences can include but are not limited to, assault, accidents, natural disasters, combat, abuse, repeated chronic stress or the loss of a loved one.
π Recognizing the Symptoms: PTSD can manifest in various ways, and its symptoms may differ from person to person. Some common symptoms include:
β’ Re-experiencing the trauma through flashbacks or nightmares.
β’ Avoidance of triggers or reminders associated with the traumatic event.
β’ Hyperarousal, feeling constantly on edge, or being easily startled.
β’ Negative changes in thoughts and mood, such as feelings of guilt, shame, or a diminished interest in activities.
