In today’s connected world, children aren’t just using technology; they’re constantly being influenced by it. Helping kids develop digital self-management skills is more critical than ever.

From understanding how the adolescent brain responds to social media and games, to teaching practical tools such as time awareness, app boundaries, and emotional regulation, children can learn to interact with technology intentionally rather than impulsively.

AI in Education: Moving Too Fast?

AI can personalize learning, speed up grading, and help teachers focus on students. But many schools simply aren’t ready.

Infrastructure gaps, lack of teacher training, weak data protections, and widening digital divides are real issues. Yet federal funding requirements are pushing rapid adoption—before many districts can implement AI safely or effectively.

We need balanced implementation: strong privacy standards, equitable funding, and training for educators. Without it, we risk turning a promising tool into a source of inequity.

Are we setting schools up for success—or trouble? https://hubs.la/Q03C-LkL0

AI in education offers big benefits, but federal mandates push adoption faster than schools can prepare, risking equity and student data.

Dr. Strohman’s Passion

Dr. Lisa Strohman, clinical psychologist, attorney, and author, established Digital Citizen Academy to proactively prevent and educate students, educators and parents on the issues resulting from technology use. This was a passion built out of her time with the FBI working in the profiling unit as a visiting scholar during the Columbine tragedy. Digital Citizen Academy offers specific grade specific education and prevention programs to directly address the challenges children are facing daily through technology. Modules are designed to communicate research-based content to each grade on topics such as digital citizenship, cyberbullying, gaming, and more. The program is designed to empower children to regain their voice through tools and resources created to educate, inspire and empower them to become leaders in this technology-driven world. Schools and organizations have access to prevention and education modules, which allow them to monitor results and track data. A DCA diversion program is also available as a disciplinary option for students that are not demonstrating responsible digital citizen behaviors and/or adhering to school/community rules and policies. The goals is to remind leaders in this space: Parents, educators, community members and others that we all make mistakes and children will as well. With education and a trauma-informed approach to those mistakes children make, Digital Citizen Academy creates a safer future for generations of kids that join the online culture.
