What features should you look for in accommodations at an Ayurvedic hospital?
This is my deluxe room this year at the Kerala Health Village, my Ayurvedic Hospital of choice.
Your first experience especially should come with comfortable accommodations, efficient service and these features:
Single wide or double bed. Most doubles are two single beds pushed together so it may be easy to lose a bracelet or earring. (Check under the beds before departure)
Extra blanket. If you choose to use AC you may need one, however while under medical care such as detox (panchakarma) or after an oily head massage, AC is not advised.
Telephone to reach nurses station or reception especially in middle of night. Wifi may be spotty so don't depend on cell phone.
Kettle to boil water for tea.
Pitcher of the medicated herbal water - always stocked for your hydration and therapeutic cleansing. (See my previous reel).
Bathroom with hot water tank, bucket for bathing in case you are not permitted to get your hair wet some days (avoid using shower head). Natural skin and hair amenities.
Clean floors, spacious layout and well lit hallways.
Treatment/spa gowns so you are ready to go when the therapist comes knocking on your door.
I'm not picky about storage for clothes in an Ayurvedic hospital but THIS room was one of the best designed rooms for a comfortable stay.
And of course, the yoga mat and balcony with this view didn't hurt! ð
The Health Village in Aluva never disappoints. Full disclosure, I'm a graduate of their academy so I may be a little biased but truthfully, this is the most authentic, relaxed and warm friendly environment I've experienced. The quality of the medical care, the food and service from support staff is superb. And the cost is reasonable.
ððžI'm planning to return next year and I am putting together a health tourism group of newbies who want to experience Ayurveda at the source. DM me or comment below "I want to go" if you would like information.
