In my not so humble, humble opinion šā¦
Alcohol has been completely bastardized in the health conversation.
And to be clear, Iām not advocating that everyone go raise a glass.
But it is interesting what we collectively decide is ābadā or worthy of warning labels⦠while other things get prescribed every single day with barely a second thought.
Hormonal birth control and certain hormone therapies also carry very clear and established carcinogenic risk.
Yet where is the real conversation around risk stratification?
Iām not anti-hormone.
I prescribe hormones when appropriate.
This is anti-cavalier medicine.
Family history matters.
Clotting risk matters.
Estrogen metabolism matters.
Personal cancer history matters.
The terrain matters.
If something meaningfully shifts risk, patients deserve more than a rushed conversation and a prescription pad.
āCommonā does not mean benign.
