Eating disorders and substance use often overlap.
Especially when trauma is part of the picture. 🚨

In our blog, we explore the different types of PTSD, how trauma can affect emotional regulation and coping behaviors, and why untreated trauma may influence patterns related to both disordered eating and substance use.

Understanding trauma doesn’t mean assigning blame.
It means creating safer, more effective paths to healing.
Especially for individuals facing multiple challenges at once.

During National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, it’s important to remember that eating disorders don’t always show up in obvious ways.

Often, the earliest signs are behavioral or emotional…not physical.
😰Increased rigidity, social withdrawal, anxiety around food, or an intense need for control can sometimes signal that someone is struggling internally.

These signs don’t guarantee a diagnosis, but they do suggest that support, curiosity, and professional guidance may be needed.

šŸŒ„At Pinnacle Peak Recovery, we approach eating disorders with clinical care, compassion, and respect – meeting each person where they are, without judgment.

During National Random Acts of Kindness Week, it’s worth remembering that kindness applies inward, too. ā™„ļø

šŸŒ„At Pinnacle Peak Recovery, self-kindness is built into treatment. Not as an afterthought, but as a clinical necessity. Healing often begins when people feel safe, supported, and understood.
That’s why our therapy offerings are designed to meet people where they are, including:

šŸ‘€Trauma-focused therapies: Supporting PTSD and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through approaches such as ART, EMDR, DBT, CPT, psychodrama, and somatic experiencing.
šŸŽExperiential therapies: Including expressive arts, sensory rooms, and music therapy – helping clients process emotions beyond words.
🧘Holistic therapies: Such as yoga, reiki, meditation, and acupuncture to support regulation, mindfulness, and overall well-being.
šŸ‘„Individual, group, family, and couples therapy: Because healing doesn’t happen in isolation, and support systems matter.

Being kind to yourself can mean asking for help, choosing care, and allowing space to heal at your own pace.

Kindness doesn’t have to be complicated and overwhelming. 🫄

During National Random Acts of Kindness Week, here are a few simple, realistic ways to practice kindness that support emotional health and recovery:

šŸ‘ļøGive your full attention when someone is speaking – even briefly
šŸŽ‰Offer encouragement without advice or expectations
ā›”Respect boundaries, including your own
🫶Let someone know they’re not alone, even if you don’t have answers
✨Take a moment to pause instead of pushing through stress

These small moments often help people feel safer, more grounded, and more willing to stay connected to care.

This week is National Random Acts of Kindness Week – and tomorrow, February 17, is National Random Acts of Kindness Day.

Kindness doesn’t have to be big or public to matter. In recovery and mental health care, small, consistent acts of kindness often create the most stability, especially during difficult or transitional moments.

šŸ“²Sometimes kindness looks like checking in.
šŸ‘‚Sometimes it looks like listening without fixing.
🧘 And sometimes, it looks like giving yourself permission to slow down and ask for support.

šŸŒ„At Pinnacle Peak Recovery, we see every day how compassion offered freely and without judgment, helps people stay engaged in care and move forward with more confidence.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance. šŸ’•

For many people in recovery, it’s a reminder to reflect on all forms of love.
Friendships. Family bonds. Chosen support systems.
And even the relationship you’re building with yourself.

If today brings joy, celebrate it.
If it brings mixed emotions, that’s okay too.

Connection doesn’t have to look a certain way to matter.

šŸŒ„At Pinnacle Peak Recovery, we believe healing happens through safe, supportive relationships — the kind that encourage growth, honesty, and compassion. Whether it’s peer support, family therapy, or community connection, love in recovery is about showing up and staying present.

No matter how today looks for you, you deserve care, understanding, and connection. šŸ¤

Making friends as an adult can feel harder than it ever used to…
And in recovery, it can feel even more complicated. šŸ¤

šŸ‘„That’s why group therapy plays such an important role in the healing process. At Pinnacle Peak Recovery, group therapy isn’t about forced sharing or surface-level conversations. It’s about learning how to connect honestly, listen openly, and build trust in a safe, supported environment.

Through group therapy, clients practice:

🌵Communicating needs and boundaries
šŸ’®Giving and receiving feedback
🌱Feeling understood without judgment
šŸœļøBuilding confidence in healthy social connections

On National Make a Friend Day, we’re reminded that meaningful connection doesn’t start with perfection. It starts with showing up. Group therapy gives clients a space to do exactly that, alongside others who truly understand the journey.

Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation.

A recent Psychology Today article highlights something we see every day in treatment: purposeful friendships matter deeply in recovery. Not just having people around, but having relationships built on honesty, boundaries, and shared growth.

In recovery, friendships often shift.
Some connections fall away.
New ones take time to form.
And that can feel uncomfortable … even lonely, at first.

But intentional relationships provide something critical: accountability without judgment, support without pressure, and connection without conditions.

šŸŒ„At Pinnacle Peak Recovery, we emphasize building healthy relationships alongside clinical care. Whether through group therapy, alumni involvement, or peer connection during treatment, clients are supported in developing friendships that reinforce stability rather than undermine it.

Recovery isn’t about doing life alone.
It’s about learning how to do life together – differently and more intentionally. šŸ¤

Building self-esteem is more than a feel-good habit.
It’s a foundation for making positive choices, setting boundaries, and supporting long-term recovery. 🌟
It starts with noticing the little things in your day-to-day life and actively choosing practices that reinforce your sense of self-worth.

Here are three actionable ways to boost self-esteem that anyone can start today:

šŸ“ Celebrate Small Wins: Each step forward matters. Did you make it through a difficult conversation or try a new healthy habit? Take a moment to acknowledge it … small victories compound over time.

šŸ—£ļø Practice Positive Self-Talk: Notice your inner dialogue. Replace criticism with encouragement. Speaking kindly to yourself reinforces confidence and reduces shame, which is especially important in recovery.

šŸ¤ Surround Yourself With Support: Your environment matters. Spend time with people who lift you up, offer perspective, and encourage growth. Healthy connections remind you of your worth and keep you accountable to your goals.

Even small, daily actions can build lasting self-esteem and strengthen your recovery journey. šŸ’›

Our Story

We believe healing is possible. We are committed to life-long success for people suffering from and those affected by addiction and behavioral health conditions. We help our clients embody a life of recovery by embracing compassionate care with clinical excellence.

We believe in patient-centered, evidence-based care driven by family values in a home-like environment. We incorporate the 12 Steps into our approach, but rely more heavily on evidence-based techniques such as CBT and DBT. We also work with those on medication when needed. We know that the longer a client is connected to care, the better their chance of success, so we work hard to maintain contact with our clients post discharge.
