We have some new followers here, so let’s answer some of our most frequently asked questions:
How does laser hair reduction work?
A concentrated beam of light is aimed at hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment, which damages the follicle enough to re**rd future growth. Lasers can remove hair on almost any body part, from several months to years, as the results differ widely from person to person.
What determines who is a good candidate for laser hair reduction?
Just about anyone is a good candidate for laser hair reduction. With the latest technology in the diode laser system, we can safely and effectively treat almost every skin type. The “best” candidate for laser hair reduction is someone who has fair skin and dark hair. Please keep in mind that the laser is not as effective on blonde, red, grey or white hair, as well as “peach fuzz”.
How many treatments will I need?
If you’ve never had any laser treatments, we will recommend you start with a package of 6. It typically will require 6 – 8 treatments to permanently reduce the number of regrowing hairs by more than 90%, six months after the last treatment. Some body areas may require even more sessions, and some may require less. Most people will come in for a “touch up” appointment 1-2 times per year.
How long does it last?
There are a number of factors that can affect the success of a series of hair reduction treatments. After each treatment, you’ll see a noticeable, permanent reduction in the number of hairs that regrow in the treatment area. Hormones also play a big factor in how “permanent” results can be. Hormones are one of the biggest triggers of hair growth, so keep in mind, you may notice some regrowth after pregnancy, during menopause, during stress and often with significant medication changes.
Does the laser treatment hurt?
Most people leave our office saying “Whew! That was way easier than I had expected!” On our laser, we have a “chill tip” which greatly reduces any discomfort. It is often described as feeling similar to tweezing.
