Your children come through you, not from you. They are Life’s longing for itself.

Guide your children. Support and encourage them. Set boundaries, and stand firm in those boundaries, with abiding love. Children crave boundaries. They will push against them with all their might, and it is in your steadfastness that they feel safe — that they experience the depth of your love.

As a parent, it is your duty to encourage and support your children. To teach them how to make choices — wise choices, healthy choices. As they mature, do not make choices for them.

Do not attempt to control them. If they sense even the smallest hint of control, they will run. They will run as far as they can.
If you make choices for them, they will not learn to make choices for themselves. And when they leave you, they will look to others to decide for them. But those others will not choose in your child’s best interest — they will choose in their own.

When we make choices for others, we tend to choose what is easiest for us. So too will those your children turn to — they will choose what is easiest, safest, or most beneficial for themselves, not for your child.

Your children are wise and insightful. You are charged with the sacred task of teaching them how to use that wisdom — to serve their highest good, and the good of those around them.
