BAYLOR UNIVERSITY PUBLISHES LARGEST STUDY EVER ON MASSAGE THERAPY USE
July 2024
"Many people receive massage therapy and for many reasons. But according to a new study – the largest and most comprehensive ever conducted on the subject – the prevalence of visits to massage therapists is higher than one might have imagined and the reasons may be surprising."
“What our study shows is that it’s probably not helpful any longer to label massage as an ‘alternative’ therapy, with all of the marginality that the term conveys.”
“Licensed massage therapists ought to be respected as mainstream practitioners, whose profession provides a therapeutic approach not just to address pain and functional challenges but to foster wellness and overall well-being, physical and emotional.
Everyone can benefit from working with a skilled massage therapist. They’re the hidden gems in the healthcare system.” - Jeff Levin, Ph.D., M.P.H., University Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health. (Robert Rogers/Baylor University)

Prescription strength soft-tissue therapy providing relief, restoration and recovery for muscular pain, repetitive strain and restricted motion. Serving Scottsdale/Phoenix since 1997.
Allen Rubin is the owner and lead therapist at Bodies in Balance Advanced Muscular Therapy. He has been involved in the healthcare and wellness fields for nearly 30 years. He attended the diagnostic imaging and allied health degree programs at Albert Einstein Medical Center and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and graduated at the top of his class. He began his career as a medical imaging technologist (X-ray/MRI) in 1989. During that time, he worked in a variety of clinical settings including hospitals, operating rooms, trauma ER’s, private imaging centers and orthopedic/sports medicine practice.
In 1996, he chose to take a more “hands-on” approach to his work and enrolled at the Phoenix Therapeutic Massage College. After completing the 735 hour program with honors, he transitioned from his imaging career and opened Bodies in Balance Integrated Therapeutics, a clinical and sports massage therapy practice in Scottsdale focused on soft tissue pain, injury rehabilitation and restorative wellness. While he has worked with professional athletes from the NFL and MLB, Ironman triathletes and accomplished dance performers, he largely attends to “everyday athletes” who seek help with painful neuromuscular conditions or want to maintain their structural health, mobility and active lifestyles.
Allen specializes in a wide range of soft-tissue therapy and corrective exercise solutions for common musculoskeletal problems and chronic pain conditions. His treatments are specific and tailored to clients' individual needs rather than taking a "cookie-cutter" approach. He enjoys educating clients about how their bodies work and self care methods that can give them control over their own results. He has a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, function and movement coupled with a compassionate and easy-going manner.
Allen has completed hundreds of continuing education hours and advanced certifications in Neuromuscular Therapy, Orthopedic and Sports Massage, Fascial Stretch Therapy, Neurodynamics, Pain Science, Movement Assessment and Corrective Exercise, to name a few. Allen continues to devote an extraordinary amount of time and effort toward expanding his knowledge and skills through self-study and continuing education. He has studied with some of the most advanced instructors in soft tissue therapy and injury rehabilitation in the world. He works in conjunction with local physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors and fitness professionals as an adjunct to their care or as a stand alone solution. Through his own encounters with soft tissue pain & injury he has gained a depth of understanding about what his clients are experiencing and how to chart a course toward wellness and a life without pain.
