Dr. Amy Serin

Dr. Amy Serin Dr. Amy Serin, PhD is a stress expert, neuropsychologist, inventor, author, and public speaker.

Dr. Serin conducts psychological and neuropsychological evaluations for ages 4 through adult for ADHD, learning disabilities, IQ, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorders and giftedness. She also uses a team approach, working together with schools and consulting with medical professionals to help facilitate the most effective treatments for her patients. Dr. Serin applies her personal and scientific understanding of the challenges of parents face when dealing with giftedness, ADHD, autism, mood disorders and other special needs. Because she cares deeply about her patients’ successes, she also works with parents on structured parenting plans that can minimize tantrums and other problematic behaviors while increasing positive behaviors. Dr. Serin takes a strength-based, results-oriented approach to her psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults. She uses cognitive-behavioral approaches because research shows they work for many conditions, including Dr. Serin’s areas of expertise: anxiety, depression, parenting, and women’s issues. Dr. Serin’s approach is both scientific and holistic, and stems from a broad educational background. She graduated from Arizona State University, where she was Valedictorian (Moeur Award) and holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Pediatric Neuropsychology from The Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Serin completed her training at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and several private practices before opening a practice to serve Phoenix and the West Valley. She is President-Elect of The Arizona Neuropsychological Association and a member of the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research, the Arizona Psychological Association, the National Academy of Neuropsychology, and Arizona Children’s Services Network.

We've been taught that stress management is about mind over matter. But neuroscience reveals something different: when you're in fight-or-flight, the very brain networks you need for 'thinking your way out' are shutting down.

The solution? Work with your autonomic nervous system, not against it.

Stress is not something we can control with our thoughts. Understanding the autonomic nervous system can help us effectively manage stress

Lincoln said it best: "Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause."

To all our veterans: thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, and your unwavering dedication. 🇺🇸

In business, we talk about identifying patterns, but what about the negative patterns in our own minds? This deep dive breaks down the neurological basis—the "doom loop"—that causes unnecessary stress and lowers productivity.

Understanding the biological framework behind persistent negative thinking is key to applying cognitive strategies that actually work. This is a must-read for executives, professionals, and anyone seeking sustainable mental clarity. In this article from Epoch Times, I was asked to give some of my insights about the powerful concept of "Doom Loop".

Is your child showing delays in multiple areas of development—from sitting and speaking to problem-solving? Early intervention is key.

Global Developmental Delay (GDD) refers to delays in two or more developmental areas in children under five (including motor, cognitive, and communication skills). While these difficulties aren't an official intellectual disability diagnosis, they are critical signals that a child needs specialized support to reach their full potential.

Recognizing symptoms like delayed milestones, difficulty grasping objects, or trouble following instructions can be overwhelming. But the good news is that GDD is highly responsive to tailored treatment!

At Serin Center, we offer comprehensive evaluations and personalized, evidence-based interventions. Our multidisciplinary team—including experts in psychology, speech, and occupational therapy—works closely with your family to create a unique roadmap for your child's success.

Don't wait to gain clarity and start effective treatment.

It's more than just bingeing and purging: recognizing the signs of Bulimia Nervosa is vital.

Bulimia is marked by recurrent episodes where an individual feels a complete loss of control over eating, followed by intense guilt and compensatory behaviors (purging, excessive exercise, or fasting). Common signs include an obsessive fear of weight gain and constant self-consciousness about body shape.

We know how overwhelming it is to feel stuck in this cycle.

Fortunately, with professional help—including therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), medication, and nutritional counseling—individuals can learn to manage symptoms and build a healthy relationship with food and self-image. Recovery means reclaiming control over your life and well-being.

This , we're reminded that mental health affects us all. Too many people struggle in silence, held back by stigma and fear of judgment. But it doesn't have to be this way.

This year's theme — "Community: Supporting Mental Well-Being Together" — reminds us that we're stronger when we support each other. Whether it's checking in on a friend, sharing your own story, or simply listening without judgment, every act of compassion helps break down barriers.

Let's create communities where seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Together, we can end the stigma. 💚

Why is distinguishing between a neurological and a psychiatric condition so challenging, and why does it ultimately matter for treatment success? 🤔

For years, these two areas of medicine were treated as separate, but modern neuroscience reveals significant overlap. Is ADHD primarily a developmental/structural issue (neurological) or a behavioral/emotional one (psychiatric)?

Our new post clarifies the core definitions, discusses the areas where they intersect, and emphasizes why accurate differential diagnosis is non-negotiable for effective, individualized care. Educate yourself on this critical health topic today. View our complete guide in the differences between the two disorders here:👇
