We’re honored to add Mark Edlebeck to our Board of Directors! 🎉

Mark brings a thoughtful blend of professional expertise, community commitment, and hands-on service to The Center for Courageous Kids. A resident of Bowling Green, Mark lives with his wife and their two children and is passionate about supporting organizations that enrich the lives of children and families.

Mark serves as Vice President of Fisher Contracting in Franklin, Kentucky, a heavy civil construction company operating across the Midwest and Southeast. Since 2022, he has partnered with camp to provide leadership and technical guidance on several improvement projects focused on accessibility, safety, and enhancing the camper experience. As a board member, Mark will continue to lend his expertise to long-term facilities planning and infrastructure development, helping ensure camp remains safe, accessible, and welcoming for every camper.

We’re grateful for Mark’s leadership and look forward to the impact his perspective and service will bring as we continue strengthening camp for the children and families we serve. 💙

🏆It's that time of year again!! March means Mobile Fundraising at Houchens Food Group 🎉

All March long, Houchens Food Group team members across 257 stores are helping raise critical funds for The Center for Courageous Kids—one $1 ask at a time. Because of this partnership, thousands of children and families from their communities have been able to experience the joy of camp.

Everything we do at CCK is a gift, and this month, we’re especially thankful for the HFG employees AND customers who make that gift possible.

Here’s to a courageous March. 💙

The Center for Courageous Kids is giving children with disabilities and lifelong illnesses the chance to experience summer camp in a medically safe and fully accessible environment — all at no cost to their families.

Now, the organization is raising funds to help even more children attend camp by raffling off two youth dirt bikes. ➡ tinyurl.com/3txzc6k3

📣Thinking about summer camp and wondering if your child is ready? 💙
Join us for a Parent Q & A Live on Zoom, where guardians of current and potential campers can connect directly with CCK “camp experts” and ask all the questions that matter most.

We’ll cover:
• Daily camp life & programming
• Medical supervision and safety
• Food service & accommodations
• What helps a camper feel confident and prepared

Choose the date that works best for your family:
📅 Thursday, March 5 at 7pm CT
📅 Monday, April 13 at 7pm CT
📅 Thursday, May 7 at 7pm CT

These live conversations are a great way to learn more, hear from our team, and decide if camp is the right next step for your child. We’d love to see you there.

Last weekend, a couple of CCK staff traveled to see a wonderful speaker! Dr. Temple Grandin spoke at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension. Her topic was Insights into Animal Behavior and Autism. We learned ways to help both animals and people with autism feel more comfortable with change and to create successful learning environments. She also shared that when upset, both humans and animals need about 20 minutes to calm down before they are ready to work again. Learning these best practices—and understanding how animals and people with autism think—helps our staff better prepare our animals and our camp to create a welcoming space for our campers and families.

“Autism helped me understand animals because I think in pictures. Since animals do not have language, their memories have to be sensory-based instead of word-based.” ~Dr. Temple Grandin
