As this week comes to a close, I’ve been thinking about how I got here.

I keep coming back to how grateful I am to teach at Mission.

For Kelly, who saw something in me early on and chose to invest in it. 🙏

To the students who trust me with your time, your energy, and your experience, you encourage me to be a better teacher. You make me want to keep refining, keep learning, and show up with more care.

I’m grateful for friends who stand beside me, raw and honest, the ones who aren’t afraid to sit me down and be real with me. 🫶

For my family, who keeps me grounded.

And for the teachers who guided me with incredible patience, and continue to cheer me on.

Somewhere along the way, I started to see that every interaction holds something. Every person, in their own way, becomes a teacher.

I’m also grateful for the growth that didn’t always come easily.

Thank you for being here this week. 💙

Thoughts on my teaching style:

I’m not overly rigid, but I’m not hands-off either.

There’s a structure to the class and within that, there’s space.

Sometimes I’ll guide your focus.

Other times, I’ll invite you to follow what feels interesting or stay with something a little longer.

In my aerial dance classes, I encourage you to find your own movement voice rather than becoming a version of someone else.

It’s not all serious. There’s lightness in it, too.

I’m there to shape the experience, without needing to control every part of it.

At the end of class, I always offer a moment of gratitude just to acknowledge the time and energy you gave to yourself.

That part feels important to me.

A few things I find myself coming back to:

Slow, intentional transitions

Shapes that begin close to the floor and build over time

Discovering something new through exploration, guided by curiosity and not a scroll

Music that feels a little dreamy, a little grounding

That first cup of coffee in my favorite mug before I need to be “on”

Clothing I can move freely in

Well-fitting socks, because the small things matter more than we think

In the air, I’m drawn to moments that invite me to linger while feeling supported

And that beautiful sense of peace after a satisfying practice

or the moment when something clicks for a student

Outside of the studio, my life is full in a different way.

I’m a mom to four adult kids, a wife, and last year I became a grandma to the sweetest little boy.

My dad lives with us, so my days are often shared, busy, and a little unpredictable. And, somewhere in there is my small, very loved pup, Rover.

Because of that, my practice doesn’t always look the way you might expect.

Some days it’s a full, spacious flow.

Other days it’s a few gentle shapes, a dance to one song, or a moment to pause and breathe in between everything else.

I’ve learned to stop waiting for the “perfect” time.

For me, it’s about finding small pockets and returning to them, again and again.

Hi, Susan here. 😊

I teach slow flow vinyasa, aerial yoga, and aerial dance and movement at Mission Yoga in Scranton.

I didn’t set out to become a teacher.

I originally took an aerial yoga training to better understand the hammock and support my existing circus-style silks practice. I was looking for something more sustainable, something I could grow with over time.

Teaching wasn’t really on my radar.

On the last day of training, I was offered a position.
I sat with it for a bit before saying yes, not fully realizing how much that yes would shape what came next.

Not long after, Kelly reached out needing a sub. That opportunity led to classes of my own, and I’ve been teaching consistently since 2015.

Thousands of teaching hours later, that initial yes still echoes through it all.

What started as one training quietly grew into more, including 200-hour, 300-hour, and additional studies in restorative, yin, and even paddleboard yoga, with quiet influences from other movement modalities woven throughout.

These days, my approach is simple:

movement rooted in feeling, not formula.

Hello everyone! On the final day of my teacher takeover ! This week has brought back so many memories! And gratitude for my journey so far. It all comes back to the practice of yoga Its teachings , philosophy and the many people it has given me the privilege to work with ! As we wrap things up I will selfishly promote a program that I have developed by taking all that I’ve learned, have experienced and truly believe in with all my heart ❤️ Somatic Reset Method This program is an evidenced based healing method to return us to a state of calm. To remember what that feels like, and to remember that we have the capacity to bring ourselves to the state of calm by regulating our central nervous system in a fun, soothing, gentle way ! I hope you have signed up for the 6 week series ! If not I will be holding lots of workshops and possibly a teacher training in the future ! And who knows ?? Maybe a retreat ?? Who wants a retreat ? 👏Ive thrown in some pictures of me in poses that shows what the body is capable of when we get out of our own way I can’t do those poses anymore lol but isn’t that the true meaning of yoga? To be ok with that and keep practicing anyway. I love you all 🙏🤍💫

Hello ! It’s day #4 of the teacher takeover. As we wind the week down I’ll show you what I do for my grown up job ! When I closed Prana in 2017 I began my career in the drug and alcohol field. This is not something I would have pursued normally, but I needed a job. Desire and opportunity met and here we are years later. I currently work as a counselor and trauma informed yoga instructor at Endless Mountain Extended Care in Factoryville. We are a 40 bed all men’s inpatient facility. As you can imagine there is never a dull moment! We save lives every day so it’s stressful but so rewarding! Because of my yoga background my counseling method is mainly holistic, client centered and strength based. Every Friday I teach a yoga class and let the men know that I would not be sober for 20 years had I not found yoga !I love the people I work with they are not just colleagues they are my family ! I’ve included some pictures of the facility, my office , some of the guys doing yoga, guys at a bonfire alumni meeting, the owner of the facility Dr. Arianne Scheller-Smith and our Clincal Director Ashley Bunnell and finally me and my coworkers on Halloween! Enjoy the glimpse into the world I spend the most time in ! See you tomorrow!

Hi everyone it’s day 3 ! Yoga has brought me the most powerful and life changing gifts through the years. I wanted to know and learn everything, I still do ! I told you yesterday that my very first training was a Yoga Fit weekend training. While opening Prana i did my 200 hr training at Poweryoga works in Philadelphia. It was a Baptiste power yoga training. I received my 500 hr training following. Throughout the years I have been so incredibly fortunate to train with the pioneers of vinyasa yoga on this continent. They were celebrities with followings of rock stars. My mentor and a woman I will always consider a friend is Seane Corn. I trained with her and took countless workshops with her. She radically shaped me into the person and teacher I am today. I have also trained with Brian Kest, Santa Monica power yoga Alli Hamilton Yogis Anonymous , Sadie Nardini Fierce Club , Govin Das , Bhakti yoga Shala and my other life changing training , Sianna Sherman , Exhale Venice Beach. It was during this training that I made the decision to move to LA ! You know how I roll …so I did 😂 I lived in West Hollywood for 2 years living the life I dreamed of , practicing yoga where it all began ! During this time I worked in a bougie drug and alcohol rehab right on the walk of fame in Hollywood ! ⭐️I met LOTS of interesting people there! It inspired me for change though, I had been in the yoga world for a long time. So I decided that I wanted to be a drug and alcohol counselor… so that’s what I did ! Looking back at these photos has brought back so many amazing memories! I hope you enjoy them and get an idea of the world I had the privilege of living in 🙏🤍💫
