🙏🏻Catherine E. Helfrich, 94, of Hanover Township, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Allied Services Hospice Center Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, February 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Carl D. Wint and Catherine E. (Shulz) Keiper Wint and spent the past 66 years in Lee Park, Hanover Township.

Catherine was a graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School. She was employed as a Sorter for Harte-Hanks Distribution, Wilkes-Barre and retired after 30 years.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, George R. Helfrich, who passed away August 26, 2007; a granddaughter, Jessica Helfrich; two brothers, Carl D. Wint, Jr. and James Keiper, and six sisters, Gertrude Hurst, Thelma Casey, Henrietta Bergstrasser, Ruth Moses, Madeline McCarthy and Margaret Weber.

Surviving are three children, George R. Helfrich and wife Anita, Aberdeen, MD; Michael Helfrich and wife Karen, Larksville; and Kathleen Busch and husband Carl, Daytona Beach, FL; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be private, at the convenience of her family. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., (East), 669 W. Butler Dr., Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Our deepest sympathies are with the Kitchen family as it was our privilege to have been chosen to provide comfort care for this lifelong, compassionate nurse who cared for so many, in her time of need. Our Hospice team is humbled by the kind words and memorial gift designation request, in lieu of flowers, in Barbara’s obituary.

🙏🏻Barbara Ann Kitchen, 83 of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Allied Services Hospice Center in Wilkes-Barre surrounded by her loving family and devoted neighbors.

Born in West Wyoming on April 25, 1942, Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Zelinsky) Nemic.

Barbara was a woman of faith and member of St. John the Evangelist in Pittston. A graduate of her local nursing program, she dedicated 50 years to providing compassionate nursing care, first in private duty and then at Wesley Village Nursing Home in Jenkins Twp.

Barbara was blessed with a loving heart and generous spirit. She was one of a kind and had a gift for making everyone feel like family. Her happiest times were those spent with her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Kitchen. Whether they were on a cross country road trip, one of many international cruises, or cooking at home, Barbara and Bob were always together and ready for their next adventure.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert H. Kitchen, and her sisters, Rosemary Boyer and Marie Nicholas.

Surviving are her siblings, sister, Joan Vrhel and husband, Melvin, Carverton; brother, John Nemic and wife, Margaret, West Wyoming; sister, Jean Jones, Easton; brother, George Walker and wife, Karen, Carverton; sister, Donna Fontimayor, Georgia; sister, Debra Hartman and husband, Kevin, Dupont; sister-in-law, Vlorien Sokolov and husband, George, New Jersey; multiple nieces and nephews, as well as many caring and devoted neighbors and friends. The family extends a special thank you to Robert Kovitch and Frances O’Shea for their kindness and support.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Barbara’s viewing which will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 8 to 10 A.M. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston, followed by the celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M.

Private interment will be held in Mount Zion Cemetery, Harding.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Motts family.

🙏🏻Johanna Motts, 91, of Jessup, passed away on Friday, January 23rd at Allied Hospice surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Clementina Tini Canevari.

She was employed by Barbizon and Capital Records and after raising her family she was a School Crossing Guard for over 10 years. Her biggest passion was playing bingo and cards. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandma. She will truly be missed by all who loved her. The family would like to especially thank Green Ridge Health Care Center and Angie and Paula for all their kind and compassionate care.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Motts, who died in 2015; her brothers Angelo and Mario Canevari and a sister Louise Dziedzic.

She is survived by her loving children, Michele Garvey (Buddy), Paul and Companion (Joyce), and Greg and companion (Dawn), all of Jessup; her grandchildren, Cory Garvey (Sara), Shalyn Hughes (Brian), Sarah Supey (Adam) and 5 great-grandchildren; her brother Charles Canevari; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be on Wednesday with mass of Christian burial at 1:30pm at Queen of Angels Parish, Jessup. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Viewing hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup, PA.

Our deepest sympathies are with the Roberts family as it was our honor to have been chosen to provide comfort care for Dorothy, a lifelong Nurse who cared for so many, in her time of need.

🙏🏻Dorothy M. (Czahur) Roberts, 80, of Trucksville, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at Allied Services Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, after a long illness. Her husband and son were by her side.

Born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Agnes Czahur.

Dottie, as she liked to be called, was a 1963 graduate of James M. Coughlin High School. After graduating, she completed her education as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked in the intensive care unit of Wilkes-Barre's Mercy Hospital before focusing full-time on being an amazing daughter, wife, and mother.

She loved to work around the house, cooking, gardening, and decorating, as well as attending craft shows, flea markets, and garage sales with the goal of surrounding herself with the cutest items that would uplift her spirits and those of all her friends and family. A loving and abiding motherly presence for her son and grandchildren, she was selfless and focused on bringing joy and happiness to those she cared for so deeply. She valued laughter, learning, imagination, and the freedom to have fun.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Surviving are her high school sweetheart and husband of 57 years, James E. Roberts Jr.; son, James C. Roberts, and beloved daughter-in-law, Amy Van Why-Roberts; and cherished grandchildren, Jacob and Rayna Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. Private interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township, will follow.

Our deepest sympathies are with the Bond family as it was our privilege to have been chosen to provide comfort care to Linda in her final days. Our Hospice team in Wilkes-Barre is humbled by the kind words of compassionate care in her obituary.

🙏🏻With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Linda Diane (Husted) Bond, who peacefully left us surrounded by her loving family on January 22, 2026, at the age of 75 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, following a spirited battle with dementia. Born in Berwick, Pennsylvania on February 24, 1950, to the late Geraldine M. (Bankes) Husted and Henry J. Husted, Sr. she spent most of her life residing in Plymouth, Pennsylvania and attending the Plymouth Christian Church. She lived a life full of love, contentment, and selflessness.

Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Following graduation from Wyoming Valley West High School in 1968, she dedicated her life to becoming a wife and mother who cared for her family. She enjoyed spending every Saturday shopping or venturing on short road trips with her daughter. Prior to retiring, she was employed as a part-time member of the cleaning staff at Wyoming Valley West High School, Plymouth, Pennsylvania. Her commitment to the school community and her love for children was also apparent through the time she spent volunteering and serving as a PTO Officer at Main Street Elementary School, Plymouth, Pennsylvania for more than a decade, even following her own children being promoted to the next grade level and leaving Main Street Elementary School. She also worked retail in local department stores.

Linda was also preceded in death by her siblings: Robert Husted and wife, Irene; Henry J. Husted, Jr. and wife Jane; and Ellen Manning and husband Russel; She was also preceded in death by son-in-law Robert Grevera.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David G. Bond, Sr; daughter, Jennifer L. Grevera, Hanover Township; son, David G. Bond, Jr. and fiance, Nicole Chismar, Dallas, Pennsylvania; and grandchildren: Sadie, Braydon, and Eliana Bond; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Though dementia may have taken Linda’s memories, like every mother, her heart remained full of unconditional love for her faith, family, and friends until the very end.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Allied Services Hospice Center Wilkes-Barre for the compassionate care shared with Linda in her final days.

Mom, even though your physical presence with us can no longer be, your love and guidance will remain in our hearts eternally.

Celebration of Linda’s life will begin with visitation from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. Tuesday evening at Kielty-Moran Funeral Home Inc., 87 Washington Ave., Plymouth. Our deepest sympathies are with the Nelson family as well as Skip’s many friends through Rotary as well as the countless pets & owners whose lives he touched.

🙏🏻Harold “Skip” L. Nelson Jr., V.M.D., 74, Waverly Twp., sadly passed away on Thursday. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Lavelle) Nelson. He was a cherished brother, father, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Skip was born September 13, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was raised in Montrose, PA by the late Harold L. and Sally (Little) Nelson, Jr. He was a proud graduate of Lehigh University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He was the owner and operator of Glenburn Veterinarians, P.C. for over 45 years. He was a longtime and active member of Glen Oak Country Club and the Rotary Club of the Abingtons serving as President and becoming a Paul Harris Fellow.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Chris Nelson, and Pete Nelson (Alyssa); his sister, Laurie Nelson (Peter Jessop); and siblings Kathleen, Mary Jo Kelly (Jim), Ellen Conant, Ann Powell (Richard), and Patrick Lavelle (Patricia). He was proceeded in death by his dear brothers-in-law, John Lavelle and Charlie Conant.

Skip was a wonderful, caring veterinarian who loved his profession, and created many longstanding relationships with his clients. Skip loved the game of golf, enjoying many years of league play with various partners. Through the years, he has enjoyed many Canadian fishing trips with his brother-in-law John, and train trips with the Anthracite Adventurers.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, January 31, at 12pm at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-12pm at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abington Rotary Club or the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton. 🙏🏻Rosemary Margaret Borkowski, 95, formerly of Suscon, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Jenkins Township, on May 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late George Brostowski and Amelia Ascani Brostowski Stanish.

She was a graduate of Dupont High School and worked in the local garment industry. She was a member of the ILGW Union.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Borkowski; step-father, Stanley Stanish; grandfather, Joseph Ascani; sisters, Angeline Plis and Irene Kasa.

Surviving are her children, Edward Borkowski and his wife Debra, Forty-Fort and Lisa Lokuta and her husband, Joseph, Old Forge; grandson, Ryan Borkowski and his wife, Katie, Back Mountain; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Lokuta, Edwardsville; great-grandson, Benjamin Borkowski; numerous nieces and nephews.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wilk family as it was our privilege to have been chosen to complement the outstanding care at Allied Services Skilled Nursing with comfort care in Marie’s time of need.

🙏🏻Marie Wilk, 96, of Avoca, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, in Allied Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton. She was born in Avoca on Dec. 8, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Alex and Catherine (Arch) Pucilowski.

Prior to its closing, Marie was a devoted member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Avoca, where she was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society and was active in many parish church events. She was also a longtime member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. Marie attended Avoca High School and later began her working career. She was employed for many years at Coffee's Hardware and Appliance Store in Avoca and at the Gramercy Ballroom and Restaurant.

Marie had a wonderful sense of humor and was a devoted homemaker, loving mother, and excellent cook and baker. There was always a home-cooked meal on the table, and her home was filled with warmth and care. She enjoyed life to the fullest and especially cherished time spent with family and friends. Marie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Wilk; her brother, Joseph Pucilowski; and her sisters, Helen Grudzinski and Dolores Ruda.

She is survived by her children, Maria Burton and her fiancé, Joseph Murphy, Avoca; Terry Lidy and her husband, Barry, Springbrook Township; and John Gerard Wilk, Avoca; grandchildren, Tammy Silinski and her husband, Chris; Holly Homechek and her husband, David; Danielle McDonald and her husband, Bernie; and seven great-grandchildren, Luke, Claire and Joshua Silinski; Julia, David and Jack Homechek; and Lily McDonald. Also surviving are her sister, Betty Jane Lopez, Easton; her brothers, Alex Pucilowski, Moosic; Louis Pucilowski, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

🙏🏻Jerome Melvin Thier, a lifelong entrepreneur, athlete, and proud NEPA resident lived a life defined by independence, hard work, and unfailing commitment to family, friends, and community.

A native of Jessup, Pennsylvania, Jerry was born to Louis and Anna Thier in 1936. Jerry graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1954. An avid football player, he was defensive standout on the Scranton City football team in the legendary 1953 Dream Game,. He was recruited to Brown University for his academic and athletic talent.

At Brown, Jerry majored in American Civilization and immersed himself fully in campus life, joining the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity and serving as President of the co-ed Faunce House Student Union Board of Governors.

After a brief stint in New York, Jerry returned to the Scranton-area to begin a diverse 65-year career. He rose quickly as a young executive at the International Salt Company, but soon shifted to a life of entrepreneurship, building and operating several significant businesses across the food and medical products industries, including Williams Bread, Boston Farms and Neuropedic Mattress.

Jerry went on to found the mergers and acquisitions firm, PMJ, representing sellers of successful businesses with Daniel Haggerty throughout northeastern Pennsylvania for more than 32 years.

An avid skier, Jerry was a professional ski instructor at Elk Mountain for 15 years and a proud member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America for four decades. Jerry skied 62 consecutive seasons at Elk from 1961 through 2024. One of his greatest joys was teaching his children to ski.

In 1969, Jerry appeared in a short but memorable role as Barbara Loden’s estranged husband in her groundbreaking film, Wanda.

Jerome is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Deborah Wisneski Thier; his three children from his first marriage – Whitney Thier of Coral Gables, Florida; Antony Thier, of Marin County, California; and Alex Thier of Washington, D.C.; as well as five grandchildren: Dalton, Charlie, Hannah, Izzy, and Bodhi. He is also survived by his brother, Norman Thier, of Boca Raton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave, Scranton.

The funeral will be Friday at 12:30PM graveside in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Friends and family may visit at the Carlucci-Golden DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore Friday morning from 10AM-11:30AM prior to the procession to the cemetery.

🙏🏻Patrick James Cosgrove, 78, passed away on January 20, 2026, at Allied Hospice in Wilkes Barre.

Born in Pittston on August 11, 1947, he was the son of the late James G. and Grace Loftus Cosgrove.

Patrick was a graduate of St. John’s High School, class of 1965 and Kings College, class of 1969.

Prior to retirement, he was President of Susquehanna Design Associates and Susquehanna Xerographic, as well as Senior Vice President of Topp Business Solutions.

His favorite pastimes included, golfing, cooking, and rooting for Notre Dame Football. Sadly, he was frustrated he never broke 80 at Fox Hill Country Club. Pat was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 40 years of continuous sobriety, helping countless people achieve similar life accomplishments through recovery.

Finally, Pat was always prepared to tell a good joke, and show a razor-sharp wit, yet always imparting a cherished life lesson. His wisdom and humor were infamous. These are the characteristics we will miss most about him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon White Cosgrove and sister, Maureen Cosgrove Barnhart.

Surviving are his son, Patrick Cosgrove and his wife Meredith, Wyoming and their children, Patrick and Aaron; brother, Michael Cosgrove and his wife Christine Poston, Lorton, VA; sister-in-law, Jennifer Azzolina and her husband Michael, Wilmington, NC; nieces and nephews Kevin, Christopher and Colleen Barnhart, WA and CA. 🙏🏻Robert Bob Schuman, born in 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 19, 2026. He was the son of the late Jerome and Gertrude Schuman.

Bob graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1967 and was elected to Beta Kappa. He earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1971, graduating magna cm laude and joining the Honorary Medical Society in his junior year. He completed his residency at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco before spending 30 years in private practice with The Radiological Group in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he worked alongside partners he often described as perfect – colleagues whose professionalism, camaraderie, and shared dedication made his career deeply fulfilling.

Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Carole Schuman; his children Todd (Lindsay), Scott (Kristen), and Brian (Stephanie); his stepson Colby (Angela) Kalinowski; and his grandchildren Peyton, Sydney, Madison, Samantha, Chloe, Maeve, and Evelyn. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Cathy (John) Soprano, Barbara (Raymond) Lynady, and Lori (Joseph) Carroll. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Schuman.

An avid tennis player in his early years, Bob later became a passionate collector of rare coins, mirrors, and Hard Times tokens. His expertise culminated in his award-winning 2010 book, The True Hard Times Tokens.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team at Allied Services for the exceptional care and compassion they provided during Bob’s final days, especially Judy, Samantha, and Jennifer. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Allied Services Hospice.

🙏🏻Charles M. Kelly, Jr., Marty of Glenmaura and formerly of Clarks Green, died Monday at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Gillespie Kelly.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Dr. Charles M. and M. Gertrude Reirdon Kelly. Marty was raised in Green Ridge and graduated from Scranton Preparatory School, class of 1955, and the University of Scranton, class of 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Upon graduating, Marty held a teaching position in South River, NJ. He then went on to a career at IBM. He found his true calling as a Financial Advisor, serving his clients for over 30 years.

Always community minded, Marty served on the Abington Library Board, the Rotary Club of the Abingtons, receiving the Paul Harris medal, the highest honor in Rotary, Knights of Columbus, council 280. He was a 50+ year member of The Country Club of Scranton, a member of the Executive Committee, Friendly Sons of St Patrick of Lackawanna County and The Victor Alfieri Club and Treasurer of the Sugar Sands Yacht Club, Florida.

He was not only a devoted husband to his wife, Nancy, he was a proud father to his four children, his grandchildren and his great-grandson. He will be greatly missed by all who called him a friend.

He is survived by his daughters, Colleen Ducas, Dunmore, Maura Cianciulli and her husband, John, West Chester and son, Rev. Father Canon Charles M. Kelly, Ramsey, NJ, grandchildren, Attorney Bo Loughney, Brigid Loughney, Matthew Ducas, Ali Cianciulli, Maeve Ducas, Vince Cianciulli, Ryan Bianco, and his great grandson, Benjamin Bartlett. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Joseph T. Kelly and his wife, Amy, along with several nieces and nephews including his business partner, Atty. Chris Kelly.

In addition to his wife, he is also preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Bianco, granddaughter, Kelly McDowell, brother Michael R Kelly and his wife, Margaret Kelly.

The funeral will be Friday from Albert P O’Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore with a funeral mass offered at 10:00am at St. Pau’ls Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton, Internment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. All those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church on Friday morning.

The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Skilled Care, Allied Hospice and the wonderful caring staff at Glenmaura Senior Living.
