William R. Skula, 78, of Old Forge, died Tuesday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Patricia Pagnotti.
Born in Taylor, William was the son of the late Walter and Dorothy Passeri Skula. He was a graduate of Taylor High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Kutztown University and his master’s degree in Rehab Counseling from the University of Scranton. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a social worker for the State of Pennsylvania.
William was an avid New York Yankees fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball. He loved gardening, growing the best vegetables and fruit trees. He was a lifelong poker player and frequent patron of Genotti’s, Moosic. He will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff at Geisinger CMC, especially the nurses and doctors on D8 Telemetry and ICU.
In addition to his wife, William is survived by his daughter, Larissa (Derek) Lavelle, Duryea; his son, Corey (Alison) Skula, Jenkins Twp.; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Rocco; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Skula.

WALTER E. MOYER, JR.

On July 13th, 2025, after enduring and surviving over three years of treatment and with his bucket list nearing completion, Walter Moyer died at home from lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Stacey Corby Moyer.

Born in Scranton, Walter was the son of the late Walter Sr. and Sara Moyer. He was a graduate of Riverside High School and attended Penn State University. Prior to his illness, he was a design engineer for Tinsley Design and Fabricating.

Devoted husband, home remodeler, and road tripper to Stacey. Dedicated father, nature lover, music and history buff to Judy. Walter loved his little family and did everything in his power to stay here with them. He had too many interests to list, chief among them science, mechanics, fly fishing, museums, Star Trek, Scottish ancestry, British comedies, Japanese kaiju movies, and German beer. But number one above all was music. A walking encyclopedia of Beatles information, Walter loved guitars and was a professional bassist. If you showed him "C" on any other instrument, he would have it figured out and be playing a tune in minutes.
Although he had a broad sense of humor, Walter did not suffer fools gladly. His intelligence and integrity, so needed today, will be sorely missed.

Walter is also survived by his daughter, Judith Moyer, at home; father and mother-in-law, James and Irene Corby; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Judith Carlin and Catherine Moyer.


The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Doctors Amber and John Sobuto, as well as Dr. Glen Digwood and every healthcare worker that helped to sustain and improve his life. Profound thanks to the hospice nurses and aides who worked to ensure a compassionate passing.

Family and friends will be received Sunday, August 3rd from 3 to 5 p.m. with a memorial service to follow, at the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave. South Scranton.

Stella F. Patrick, 98, of Scranton, died Friday morning at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, who died in 1981.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Rafael and Rose Gallo Comandy, Stella attended Scranton Technical High School. She was employed by A&P Bakery for 15 years. Afterwards, she was employed at Allied Health Care for over 40 years, where she was the first supervisor of the Allied Workshop. She was also the first to receive the Employee of the Month Award and was a recipient of the Mary Campbell Award. Stella was a member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Stella is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ripa, and her husband, Frank, Old Forge; a son, Stephen Patrick, Scranton; grandchildren, Patricia Ripa, Old Forge, Trina Marsico, Old Forge, and Shawn Patrick, Tampa, Fl; 7 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Viola Rooney, Rosemarie Wetland, Doris Davis, and Delores Evans and a brother, Patsy Comandy.


The funeral will be held on Tuesday, with Divine Liturgy at 11:00 am in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 430 N. Seventh Ave., Scranton, by Rev. Myron Myronyuk. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery, Kane St., Scranton. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:30-11:00 am in church. Theresa M. Sparacino, 87, of West Wyoming, formerly of Scranton, died Friday afternoon at Third Avenue Health Care Center, Kingston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Sparacino, who died in 2000.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Martha Stanczewski Ludwikowski. She attended Sacred Hearts grade school and South Catholic High School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a CNA at the Jewish Home for over 22 years. Theresa was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always there for her family when they needed her most. She was a constant source of love and support. She was also an exceptional cook and baker. She will be deeply missed by her loving family.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Third Avenue Health Care Center for their kindness and compassion during Theresa's short stay there.

Surviving are a son, Philip, Old Forge; daughters Linda Karcutskie and her husband, Charles, West Wyoming; Sharon Ritsick and her husband, Michael, Kingston; Theresa Kepler and husband Brett, Indiana; grandchildren, Stephanie, Charlie, Nicholas, Joshua, Haley, and Julianna; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth O'Donnell, a brother, Robert Ludwikowski and his wife, Irene; nieces and nephews.

Ronald Butash, 79, of Scranton, died Thursday afternoon at Elan Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton, after a brief illness.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Wendel and Jeanne Erling Butash. Ron attended Sacred Hearts Elementary School and South Scranton High School. He worked in manufacturing, having previously been employed at Sauquoit Industries and Eljer Manufacturing. He retired, after 25 years of employment, from Arlington Industries.
Ron was a devoted member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, Scranton, where he served as an usher for many years. Ron was an avid bowler and member of St. Steve’s and C*C Bowling Leagues for many years. He enjoyed collecting model trains and building many different train layouts. He often assisted families in setting up train layouts under their Christmas tree. Ron especially loved Christmas. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the Globe Store, being surrounded by children and families. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends.

Ron is survived by his brothers, Dave Butash and wife Beverly, York; Tom Butash and wife Erin, Toronto, Canada; Terri Huber, Moscow; Mary Kay Parlo and husband, John, Allentown; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 22 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., South Scranton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Davis St., Scranton.

Deborah A. Bandru,71, of Clarks Summit, formerly of Scranton, died Friday, January 3, 2025 at Aventura at Terrace View, Peckville.
Born in Scranton, Debbie was the daughter of the late John and Dolores Rencavage Bandru. She was a 1971 graduate of West Scranton High School, where she was a member of the French club, chorus, Thespians, and National Honor Society. She attended Johnson School of Technology, majoring in drafting and design technology. She graduated from the Thaddeus Motyka Studio in New York, NY, where she was the winner of the 1978 Best Pop Singer Award in the “National Show Biz” competition. She toured with the “Complete Sound” and Trilogy Concert series and performed with the noted Bicentennial productions of “I love America.” She also performed with Opera IV. Debbie appeared in the production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance.” She also performed on ocean cruise ships and was a backup singer for Neil Diamond.
Debbie retired from PNC Bank in West Scranton in 2010, where she worked as an investment broker. In her youth Debbie attended St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and later attended St. John the Baptist Church, both in Scranton.
A blessing service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave. South Scranton. Family and friends may call 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Patricia Ann Skoda, of Scranton, died Friday evening, with her family at her side, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Valerie Rice Perry, Scranton and the late Clarence Perry Jr. She attended Scranton schools where she was well liked by all of her peers. Patricia loved her pets. She enjoyed trips to the beach and to the casino. She loved being with her family and friends, especially during the holidays. She was a devoted mom and grandma with endless love for her family and friends. She will be sadly missed.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Dominick Skoda; three children, Jeffrey Perry, Charles Brown, and Dana Skoda; siblings, David Perry, Gloria Kuehner, Brenda Rose, Frank Perry and his wife, Angie, John Perry, Lisa Adamski and her husband, Carl; four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Perry.

Marie Peters, 87, of Scranton, died Friday evening at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Frank A. Peters.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Stephanie Buchalski Kobesky and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Marie devoted her life to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Marie was a dynamic individual as she had many interests and talents. Her favorite hobbies included traveling, cooking the best meals, and telling fascinating stories about her family that she loved more than anything. Not only was she fluent in polish, but boasts a wealth of experience in crafting beautiful Christmas trees, having dedicated many years to this craft. She enjoyed helping out at her daughter Debra's Hair Salon and always looked forward to socializing with all the ladies. Everyone enjoyed her homemade potato pancakes and potato salad. Marie’s warm and bubbly personality added depth and richness to her character that her family will miss forever.

She is survived by a son, Frank Jr. and wife, Jennifer, Clarks Summit; two daughters, Sandra Mesko and husband, Kevin, Laflin; and Debra Hallisky and husband, Paul, Mayfield; a son, Brian and wife, Rose, Clarks Summit; 11 grandchildren, Erica, Brittany and Leona Peters; Kevin and Korey Mesko; Paul, Kyle and Kristin Hallisky; and Kaitlyn, Brian, and McKenna Peters; great-grandchildren, Austin, Asher, Brayden, Braxtyn, Miley, Mason, and Kenzie; nieces and nephews.

Eleanor Velehoski, of Scranton, died peacefully Sunday evening with her family at her side, at the home she was born in 97 years ago. She was the wife of the late Edward Velehoski.
Eleanor was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Bolinski Zenker and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She then went on to graduate from Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing and was employed there until her retirement.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Janet Velehoski and her significant other, Dominick, Scranton.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Samsell, and a brother, Joe Zenker.

The family would like to thank the staff of Traditional Home Hospice for their kindness and excellent care. Also, a special thank you to Michelle for all her support.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon M. Miller, who peacefully departed this life on Saturday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be missed by all who knew her.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Stryjek Romanski. She was a graduate of Bishop Klonowski High School, class of 1975. She spent her life cherishing the moments spent with her family and friends. Her love for the beach was unmatched, and she could often be found enjoying the sand and sea with those she held dear. Whether laughing with loved ones around the boardwalk or simply gazing at the waves, the beach was her happy place, where she felt most at home.

Sharon is survived by three sons, Jason, Scott, and Brian Miller; a grandson, Joshua Miller; a brother, Edward Romanski; a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Marie Allen.

Kathryn G Sedlock, a long-time resident of Long Island, NY, passed away in Colorado Springs, CO on November 12, 2024. Born on July 14, 1943, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of Elmer and Julia Shimo. She graduated from Marywood College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

Kathryn was a dedicated mother to her two children, Michelle A. Day (Stephen R.), of Colorado Springs, CO, and Michael J. Sedlock II (Heather Law) of Islip Terrace, NY. She was also a loving grandmother to Stephen Michael Day, Olivia Law Sedlock, and Owen Michael Sedlock. She is also survived by her sister, Anne (Dwight) Bockelkamp of Scranton PA, who was a constant source of support and love throughout her life, and nephews, grandnephews, and a grandniece.

Kathryn was a successful homemaker and businesswoman throughout her life. She owned Dick’s Drapery Shop in Hazelton, PA; managed the Wire Wisk in Northport, NY; and Christopher Gallery in Stony Brook, NY. Additionally, she worked as an office manager at a dental practice and ran her own catering business in Northport, NY.

Kathryn had a passion for sewing, baking, and cooking. She loved hosting parties and celebrations for her family and friends. She was an accomplished designer who decorated many Christmas homes for touring, and the many homes in which she lived. She enjoyed traveling to see family and grandchildren, and as a young woman she spent time in France & Germany.

Kathryn was formerly married to Michael E. Sedlock, who passed away in November 1997, and was the long-time partner of Donald C. Mills, who passed away in April 2014.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 22, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave, Scranton, PA. Interment will follow at St Catherine's Cemetery in Covington Township, PA.
