Thanks to the students from Beth Shalom Academy for spending time baking cookies and spreading holiday cheer with our residents! It was a fun, hands-on activity for everyone — good conversation, plenty of teamwork, and of course, lots of delicious cookies! 🍪 💙

And that’s a wrap on Project Joy! Elan staff and students from Beth Shalom Academy dropped off the donated toys and baby items at the Scranton JCC for distribution to those in need in our community this holiday season. Thanks to all who donated or volunteered to help make this initiative a huge success!

BIG NEWS: Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab has officially kicked off a comprehensive renovation of the entire first floor! This exciting project includes a complete refresh of our resident Dining Room and Auditorium, as well as the following improvements:

• New energy-efficient LED lighting throughout
• Fresh paint, new ceiling tiles, and cove base
• New luxury vinyl and carpet flooring
• All-new furniture throughout
• New reception desks in both main lobbies
• Modernized elevator car interiors
• New vestibule walk-off flooring
• Updated visitor check-in stations

This renovation will create a brighter, more comfortable, and more contemporary environment for our residents, families, and staff.

We appreciate your patience during construction and look forward to welcoming you into the refreshed space soon!

‘Tis the season for spreading holiday cheer with purpose and gratitude! ✨❄️

Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab partnered with Beth Shalom Academy students and Scranton Tomorrow (shoutout to Steve!) to create and collect holiday decorations that will brighten the season for veterans at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of this meaningful initiative honoring those who have served our country with courage and dedication. 🇺🇸

We had a great meeting last week with Maggy and Mendy from Jewish Family Service of Northeastern Pennsylvania. We are grateful for this partnership, and excited about working together to improve the lives of seniors in our community!

JFS Social Workers Maggy and Mendy from JFS NEPA were grateful for the opportunity to meet with Missy Bednar and tour Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab, A Jewish Senior Life Community. We are excited about the potential to collaborate and bring meaningful mental health support to the residents. Strengthening partnerships like this helps us better serve our community and ensure older adults receive the care and compassion they deserve.

Thank you to the students and staff from Beth Shalom Academy for helping us get ready for Project Joy 2025! The collection boxes are set up in the lobby and are ready for your donations.

Project Joy is an annual initiative of the Scranton JCC. Participating organizations and volunteers collect toys and baby items to help local families with children who are in need during the winter holiday season.

Thanks to everyone who participated in Friday’s blood drive! We met our goal of 20 donors, which included 7 first-time donors and 8 Type O donors, which is incredibly valuable for patients in need. Thanks for giving the gift of life!

Yesterday, Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab’s Missy Bednar presented a donation to the Alzheimer's Association- Greater PA Chapter Walk Manager Dick Smith for the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA. The event took place at PNC Field in Moosic, and had the largest attendance and raised the most money in the 22 years since the event began. Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab participated in the event with a walk team and as a sponsor.

“Elan remains deeply committed to supporting the Alzheimer’s Association, and as we look ahead to 2026, we’re already excited to launch another amazing year with our Kickoff Dinner at Elan this March,” said Bednar, who also serves on the Executive Leadership Committee for the Alzheimer’s Association. “We look forward to continuing our partnership so we can support more people in our community who are affected by Alzheimer’s, and their families.”
