How do narcissists suck the life out of you without you realizing it?

- They require constant attention.
- They distract you from the real world with love bombing.
- They slowly separate you from your friends, family and support systems
- They tell their stories of pity to gain your sympathy
- They take all your good qualities and use them against you.
- They triangulate you with other people.
- They are constantly the victim and you are the savior (or in rejection the executioner).
- They will give the illusion of giving everything and being kind when in reality they are taking everything away from you.
- They want you to meet all their needs but when you need something, it doesn't matter; you don't matter.
- They are masters of illusions. Magicians of manipulation and control without the victim realizing it.
- They slowly break all of the victim's boundaries while establishing new boundaries that the victim must follow to the letter.
- If the victim exceeds the limits imposed by the narcissist, there will be punishment.
- They play a game that only they can win. You just don't know the rules and you're not even in the game, you're just a puppet.

What to do? In a lot of cases as the song says: You fold and walk away.

Holiday blues are real and so is post holidays depression.
But you know what else is real? that memory is a fantastic story-teller. She weaves fanciful stories about the wonder and beauty of childhood Christmases in comparison to which our present times are bleak and sad.

Here is a suggestion: listen to Her, but very briefly, then send Her away and focus on the present times: the warmth of your now family, the smiles of your now friends, the glimmering lights of your now tree.

These moments are real and in 10 years from now they too will be part of another majestic story that the Enchanting Lady memory will weave.
In the meantime you will experience less holiday blues.
