My journey to Chiropractic

Before I became a Chiropractor, I began my professional life in 1980 as a Civil Engineer. I started out working in Nuclear power plant design. I left engineering after four years to manage the family business in 1984. I was always a very healthy man until 1987 when I began feeling very ill. I was told by my mom that my eyes would roll back into my head and my face would turn grey. I developed severe knee and shoulder pain and needed to sleep long periods. My health deterioated so much that I could barely walk or function. It wasn't until 1989 that I was finally diagnosed with lymes disease.

I was immediately put on a two week course of IV antibiotic. During the treatment I felt a little more alive, however, once the two week treatment ended I became ill again. I was then put on oral antibiotics and was not able to stop because I would become sick again if I did. I was on antibiotics for over two years and developed digestive disorders as a result.

It was during this time that I decided to change careers and go into medicine. When I shared this with a friend at the time, and Chiropractor, he told me that I should become a Chiropractor instead. I said to him, "Why, I don't have back pain". He explained to me how the nervous system is the master system of the body and any interference to this system can change the function of the cell, tissue and organ that it supplies. This includes the immune system. This made sense to me and I decided to give it a try. Getting regular care for nerve interference , and not just back pain, enabled me to discontinue the antibiotics without getting sick again.
