We must teach ourselves and our children that crying is healthy. We can be both brave and sad at the same time.

It is heartbreaking how we teach small children to shut down their feelings, all because we were taught to shut down ours.

The cycle continues when we don’t learn to be comfortable with our children’s big feelings.

This starts with becoming comfortable with our own inner child’s feelings, that we never got to feel!

Today is a historical day for su***de prevention and mental health in the U.S.! The National Su***de Prevention Lifeline, now known as the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, can be more easily reached by calling or texting 988, or chatting on 988lifeline.org.

988 serves as a universal entry point so that no matter where you live in the U.S., you can easily access 24/7 emotional support. You do not have to be suicidal to reach out. Our trained crisis counselors can help you through whatever mental health challenges you are experiencing.

We're so grateful to SAMHSA, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Federal Communications Commission, and our other su***de prevention and mental health partners in the field for working together to get us here, and we look forward to growing and expanding our services and supports in the years to come.

May we create spaces of both attachment and authenticity this holiday season.. where we don't need to contort who we are to belong.. or create environments where others trade parts of themselves for connection.

Yes! This is profound... attachment is our pre-eminent need and will always trump other needs. When attachment is threatened, our very survival feels threatened.

Emotional boundaries are extremely important to a healthy life.
When we grow up with traumatized parents we learn as children that our emotions don’t matter.
Many children who feel responsible for their parents emotions grow to be adults who cannot ask for what they need.
You can break the cycle by reparenting yourself through your relationship with healthy adults and our graceful God!

"There was just a research study that came out in February from Kaiser Family Foundation that the number of people reporting being anxious or depressed went from 11 percent—in January to June 2019—to now, because of the pandemic, in January 2021, it was 41 percent. So that's just a massive jump. It’s not just in your head. There are real stressors. There are real reasons why so many people are feeling more stressed, more anxious, having trouble sleeping, putting on weight or for some people losing weight. What's really important about stress is that people understand that there's a lot that we can do about it."

As we turn towards the mental health crisis that has developed over the course of the pandemic, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris has a few pieces of advice.
