The DPCS position acts as the Program Manager / DON and requires administrative work as well as nursing. (i.e. chart review and infection control) This is an active position, involved with many of the daily operating details of the program. The DPCS oversees all Nursing, Social Services, Activity Therapy, and Human Resources functions at the hospital level.
Also responsible for making sure the hospital (unit) operates at JCAHO and DNV standards. The DPCS assumes 24-hour accountability, seven days per week, with shift supervisors maintaining hands on control of the unit activities.
The DPCS is also the liaison of American Neuro-Psychiatric Network, Inc (ANNI) to the Client (Newport Bay Hospital), Doctors, and Families that we work with at the facility. This requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and through writing. One of the key rolls is developing and maintaining the corporate culture at the facility that reflects the team work motto of ANNI.
It is mandatory that the DPCS be able to handle stressful situations and be able to make decisions based on judgment, experience, and corporate and hospital policies, as well as patient and staff well-being.
With guidance and assistance from Corporate (ANNI) the DPCS is responsible for interviewing, hiring, terminating, and training staff. The DPCS functions as a trainer for all areas of nursing. (i.e. competencies, treatment, care, and documentation) Required to counsel staff and track any deficiencies in performance including med errors and omissions. The DPCS is responsible for completing staff reviews and making recommendations to President on staff compensation adjustments or merit raises.
Responsible for monitoring staffing (with HR); verifying staffing ratios are in compliance; monitoring overtime, sick calls, and the monthly schedule. The DPCS reviews payroll for correct hours paid and overtime. Is to verify all staff competencies, licenses, and tests are up to date.
With assistance from Corporate the DPCS is expected to help make recommendations necessary to revise P&Ps and ensure all are up to date. The DPCS is required to attend various meetings with client in addition to quarterly Committee of the Whole meetings, Board meetings, Performance Improvement meetings and Safety meetings.
The DPCS leads hospital wide orientation once a month with the assistance of lead personnel from AT, SS, and HR. Expected to attend the morning meeting daily and discuss patient status, admits, and discharges with doctors, pharmacy, client, and A&R. May attend treatment team meetings and assist in updating treatment plans in conjunction with Treatment Team Coordinator.
The DPCS should also be able to assist staff with any additional duties due to high acuity, high number of admits or discharges. This is a hands-on role and the DPCS is expected to roll up his or her sleeves and help when necessary. During visiting hours the DPCS is expected to be available to meet with families.
