To perform box breathing, you inhale through your nose for a count of four, hold the breath for another count of four, exhale through your mouth for a count of four, and then pause and hold your breath again for a count of four before starting the cycle anew. This technique is easy to learn and can be practiced anywhere, making it a versatile tool for managing stress and enhancing focus.

By focusing on controlled breathing, the technique helps to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for promoting a state of calm and relaxation. This can reduce the body's stress response, lower heart rate, and decrease blood pressure. There’s something incredibly powerful about being able to show up as your full, authentic self without fear of judgment, rejection, or needing to shrink to fit others’ expectations. When we feel safe to be who we truly are, it nurtures confidence, connection, and emotional well-being.

Good mental health isn’t just about managing symptoms, it’s about feeling grounded in who you are and knowing that you are enough as you are. Trauma responses can manifest and affect individuals in various ways:

▪️ Cognitive responses can include intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, difficulty concentrating, and persistent negative beliefs.

▪️ Behaviorally, trauma can lead to avoidance, isolation, hypervigilance, and self-harm.

▪️ Physically, it can cause fatigue, sleep disturbances, somatic complaints, and increased heart rate.

▪️ Interpersonally, trauma might result in trust issues, conflicts, and emotional detachment.

Therapy options such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be effective in managing trauma responses.
