“I believe that everyone deserves the support they need to feel heard and seen in achieving their goals. You may not exactly know what you want out of therapy yet, and that’s okay. I am here to explore it with you. I use client-centered and strength-based approaches in our work together. I hope that we will embark on a journey as collaborators, navigating whatever you have in mind.

My personal journey as an immigrant has shaped the anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approaches that I use in our work together. Grounded in Relational-Cultural Theory, I also incorporate elements of CBT and Motivational Interviewing. I am committed to fostering a safe & non-judgmental space for you to explore relationships, challenges, and goals in your life.

I have experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds, providing behavioral health services in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work at the University of Washington. I am a second-year Clinical Social Work student practicing under the supervision of Kat Chen, LICSW.”

We’re excited to welcome Lily to Seattle Counseling and Wellness! She is now offering therapy sessions at an affordable rate of $60/session. Self-Esteem & Self-Care

“I am passionate about helping others reach their full potential! I offer individual therapy services at Seattle Counseling and Wellness, using a person-centered approach that honors each client’s unique experiences and identities. My goal in therapy is to collaborate with clients to build skills and foster personal growth. Before joining SCAW, I administered neuropsychological assessments for intellectual and neurodevelopmental disorders at a community mental health center. I also have extensive experience providing exposure therapy for children with anxiety disorders. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Clinical Psychology at Seattle Pacific University, researching athletic identity and providing mindfulness workshops for student-athletes. I am also part of a research team investigating personality and character strengths in the context of anxiety and depressive disorders, facilitating group therapy for adults using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

Before starting my doctoral training, I earned my master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Denver and my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. I worked on the business side of professional sports before making a career change and am still an avid sports fan! A proud Oregonian, I lived all over the country before returning to the Pacific Northwest for this chapter of my journey. I love dog-sitting, going to the movies, and playing basketball in my free time.”

Please give us a warm welcome to Jonathan! We are excited to have you.

🌟 What is self-compassion? It’s the practice of treating yourself with the same kindness, understanding, and care that you would offer to a friend. Instead of being harsh or critical, self-compassion invites you to be gentle with yourself, especially during tough times.
Self-compassion has the power to transform how we experience challenges:

🫶🏽Calm the fight or flight response: When we show ourselves kindness, we can soothe our nervous system, reducing the stress and anxiety that often accompany difficult situations.

🫶🏽Open us up to happiness, connectedness, and curiosity: By being compassionate toward ourselves, we create space for positive emotions and a greater sense of connection with others.

🫶🏽Soothe the brain enough to see things more clearly: Self-compassion helps quiet the mental noise, allowing us to think more clearly and make better decisions.

🫶🏽Quiet the harsh inner critic, allowing your intuitive voice to shine: When we silence the self-critical voice, we make room for our inner wisdom and intuition to guide us.

Remember, practicing self-compassion is not about ignoring your problems; it’s about supporting yourself through them with love and understanding. If you’re struggling to find that self-compassionate voice, Seattle Counseling and Wellness is here to help. We’re available to support you on your journey to greater self-kindness and emotional well-being.

The SNAPP acronym, created by Mitch Abblett from the Institute of Meditation and Psychotherapy, is a mindfulness-based approach designed to help individuals respond more skillfully to their emotional experiences. Here’s a breakdown of each step in the SNAPP process:

Stop: The first step is to pause and interrupt the automatic, habitual reactions that often accompany difficult emotions or situations. Take a deep breath or physically pause what you’re doing.

Notice: After stopping, bring your attention to what is happening in the present moment. This includes noticing your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without judgment.

Allow: This involves accepting your thoughts and emotions as they are, without trying to change or suppress them. It’s about giving yourself permission to feel what you’re feeling. Instead of resisting or avoiding uncomfortable feelings, acknowledge them.

Pe*****te: Look deeper into your experience to understand its underlying causes and meanings. This can involve reflecting on past experiences or identifying patterns in your reactions.

Prompt: Prompt yourself to take a mindful action that aligns with your values and intentions. This step encourages you to respond rather than react, choosing actions that promote well-being. Consider what you can do next that is both kind to yourself and constructive. This could be setting a boundary, practicing self-compassion, or engaging in a calming activity.

Use SNAPP to transform your emotional responses and live with greater mindfulness. Want to learn more about mindfulness? Follow us and join our community at Seattle Counseling and Wellness!

✨ What is EMDR Therapy? ✨
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful psychotherapy technique designed to help you heal from traumatic experiences and distressing memories. By using guided eye movements, EMDR helps your brain reprocess these memories, reducing their emotional impact and helping you move forward.

👥 Who is EMDR For?
EMDR is highly effective for anyone struggling with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, or emotional distress. It’s also beneficial for those who have experienced loss, abuse, or other significant life challenges.

🧠 How Does EMDR Work?
During sessions, your therapist will guide you through recalling a traumatic memory while directing your eye movements. This process helps desensitize the memory, making it less triggering and more manageable over time.

💡 Benefits of EMDR Therapy:
• Reduce symptoms of trauma and PTSD
• Alleviate anxiety and depression
• Improve self-esteem and emotional resilience
• Gain a healthier perspective on past experiences

✨ What to Expect in Your First Session
In your initial session, your therapist will explain the EMDR process, assess your needs, and create a personalized treatment plan. You’ll start with some simple exercises to get comfortable with the technique.

💬 Is EMDR Right for You?
If you’re ready to work through your past and find peace, EMDR might be the right fit. Reach out to us at Seattle Counseling and Wellness to learn more and schedule a consultation.

“I provide individual therapy to adults of all backgrounds and identities. My clinical practice is rooted in the belief that each person has the inherent capacity to heal and grow. To support this process, I cultivate a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can build coping skills, gain insight into limiting beliefs, behaviors, and relational patterns, and/or process painful past experiences to achieve wellness and stability.

I earned my Master of Social Work degree from Boston College and Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College. I have almost a decade of clinical experience working in a variety of settings including community mental health centers, hospitals, and homeless shelters. I have extensive experience supporting and empowering marginalized groups including women, BIPOC, and survivors of trauma. I tailor treatment to meet each client’s needs and goals, drawing upon a variety of evidenced-based practices including mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).”

We’re so excited to have you join our team! Please welcome Marie!
