Winter is the perfect time to slow down and follow your child’s lead. ❄️

Simple sensory play like scooping ice, playing with “snow dough,” or running fingers under warm and cool water can spark so much communication.

When kids feel regulated, they’re more ready to connect, explore AAC, or use their natural language pathways.

Tell us, what sensory play does your child love right now?

Some children don’t start with single words; they start with scripts. 💭

Gestalt Language Processors (GLPs) often repeat lines from shows, songs, or conversations.

This isn’t “just echoing”, it’s a meaningful step toward spontaneous speech.

We use the Natural Language Acquisition framework to support this beautiful path of communication. 🌈

AAC isn’t a “last resort”; it’s a bridge to connection. 💬

Every child deserves access to communication, and AAC can help voices be heard in powerful new ways.

Whether a child uses gestures, pictures, devices, or scripts, it’s all communication worth celebrating.

Speech therapy isn’t just sitting at a table practicing sounds, it’s connection, play, and discovery. ✨

Sometimes it looks like bubbles and giggles.

Sometimes it’s a walk outside, talking about what we see.

Sometimes it’s modeling words on an AAC device while building a block tower.

Every session is unique because every child is unique. 💛

Curious what therapy could look like for your child?

Reach out, we’d love to chat and see if we’re a good fit for your family.

Hi, I’m Abbey, a speech-language pathologist with a heart for supporting language learners of all backgrounds and abilities.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in providing holistic, person-centered care, where a child’s strengths, sensory preferences, and interests are recognized and valued. I use a team-based approach to therapy, where caregivers are integral participants in their child’s language development. I believe in building a foundation of trust and connection, and dedicate time to understanding a child’s unique interests. I cherish the “ah-ha” moments where connection between the child and their communication partners clicks, and find that child-led play fosters the best engagement and naturalistic learning opportunities.

My specialities include Early Intervention, language therapy, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). I have had several years of experience supporting language development of autistic individuals, using Gestalt Language Processing strategies, sensory regulation techniques, visual modeling, and AAC. I have supported many families in navigating the AAC device funding process, and have secured dedicated devices for both children and adults. My passion for AAC recently took me to Arequipa, Peru, where I supported therapists and families in AAC implementation.

My treatment philosophy remains grounded in establishing trust and connection with my clients. I strive to support children in their communication journey and establish a relationship in which their interests are respected, their engagement grows, and their communication thrives.

Certifications/Licenses:
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certification
Washington Department of Health Speech Pathology license

Here’s a gentle shift that makes a world of difference:

Instead of saying, “Say _____” ➡️ Try simply modeling the word or icon without expectation.

✨ Why? Because communication should be internally motivated, not prompted.
When we model, children learn naturally, without pressure, and that builds a foundation for connection and authentic communication.

At Lake Stevens Speech Language & AAC, we believe communication grows best in safe, supportive spaces where kids feel free to express themselves in their own way. 🌟
