When you have a healthy relationship with food, there is no need to label the foods you eat. Food won't have power over you anymore. So you can still make decisions about food based on preferences, how they make you feel, and what you'd like to eat and when. But you don't feel out of control around them. It's a pretty magical place to get to! Drop an emoji if you already are there OR if you're looking to get there!!

Did you know that changes in the weather can influence how we eat? You probably did. But did you also know that it can increase the frequency of emotional eating or binge eating?

Yep. As we are in the middle of cooler (and rainier, for us Seattleites) weather it is important to be mindful of how our environment affects our mood and even our relationships!

Seasonality plays an important role in any behavior ...

Seasonality affects our routines, activities and the amount of time we spend indoors/outdoors…

It influences our diet and the foods we crave ...

It affects our moods and our ability to navigate stressful situations ...

The shorter days influence our circadian rhythms and can cause disruptions in our sleep patterns or cause us to feel more/less energized.

Sooo if you are feeling a little off ... the weather might be to blame!

(Buttttt you don't have to let that mean you're "doomed" and will be eating emotionally for the next several months. It just means that you need to be aware of how your environment influences your health and wellbeing and take the proper steps to make sure it does not derail you!

Sooo how is the weather affecting YOU? Share in the comments...

Something That You Might Not Know About Me Is...

I live in Seattle now but I’m from New Jersey. And there is definitely still some “Jersey-girl” in me. What does that mean? Well it means if I don’t like something, I’ll let you know. And I really, really don’t like diet culture.

Diet culture has us all believing that we’re not worthy unless we weigh a certain number or look a certain way. So that has a lot of people not eating enough. And what happens when we don’t eat enough?? We BINGE. We OVEREAT. We EAT EMOTIONALLY. It’s simply our body finally getting enough food, but we feel bad about it and blame ourselves.

Sigh. I really, really don’t like diet culture. Anyway, Jersey also gets a bad rap sometimes and I want to set the record straight – there are some awesome and beautiful parts of the state!!

Can you relate? Do you hate diet culture too???

Are You Ready For A Change?

If you are DONE with the eating emotionally and feeling out of control around food, it's time for a change…

There IS a way through this and my clients are a perfect example of this…

The things that I teach in my guides and courses will take you from feeling guilty, out of control, and powerless around food to eating what you want, when you want, and truly enjoying it!

If you are ready to learn how I can help you say goodbye to emotional eating then drop an emoji below and I’ll reach out...

My ice cream is the ONE thing I have trouble sharing. And the ONE thing I always have at home.

It’s just a non-negotiable…

If you ask me to follow any meal plan that does not allow for ice cream, I am OUT! It JUST won’t happen. Truthfully, I don’t want any food to be off-limits to anyone (except for allergies). But that’s a story for a different day.

The point is that I love my ice cream. Do I eat it every day? No. Could I? Yes. But I have a healthy relationship with food, I nourish my body, and I’m actually not in the mood for ice cream every day. This might be hard to believe if you are prone to eating emotionally or binge eating. But there is a way to have the foods you love in your home and not eat them right away. It’s crazy! And awesome!

What are YOUR favorite foods?

If you are feeling lost, start HERE.

Too often we start with the difficult things before we have mastered the foundational things…
Then we lose our way and all our efforts seem to have been for nothing…

If you feel like you are starting from square one
If you are feeling a little lost and can’t quite get your bearings…

If your day or week took an unexpected turn and all your best laid plans for change have gone out the window…

Do this ONE thing…

THE INTENTIONAL DELAY

The intentional delay helps with emotional eating because it puts you back in charge. It allows a little bit of distance between your eating and your emotions. So, while you work to truly end your struggles with emotional eating, you can get practice at delaying it. When you learn to do this, you’ll build confidence that things can be different. It builds hope.

And the delay doesn’t need to be hours, it can be minutes to start.

It may not feel like much… but never underestimate the power of this one simple action.

THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO START

And just a reminder: This is not a race. This is about permanent change over time.

There will always be things that have the potential to derail your progress

Soooo control what you can and don’t worry about what you can’t…

And if you need to start small, start with this one thing.

Most people who experience emotional eating are so hard on themselves. Why can’t I stop? Why do I keep doing this? What is wrong with me? Etc, etc.

What I have realized is that they are missing a beginning step that often helps them stop eating emotionally: MAKING THE PROBLEM THE PROBLEM

Understanding this was the one thing that really changed things for my clients and when someone continues to struggle with emotional eating, I make it a priority.

Making the problem the problem is a way of practicing self-compassion. It’s a way of being kinder to yourself. YOU are not the problem, the problem is the problem.

So if you are really struggling with emotional eating - consider reminding yourself of this. The problem is the problem.

And if you need additional support please share in the comments what you are struggling with because I know you are not the only one…
