Chest and breast massage is so important for alleviating pain with breathing and range of motion in the shoulder. Releasing the anterior wall of the ribcage can assist with neck and shoulder pain, as well as restricted breathing. Tightness of the anterior wall of the ribcage is often a part of why so many folks have that common pain between the shoulder blades. While it is a modality that sometimes elicits jokes, it's been one of the most impactful modalities for those with chronic bronchitis, asthma, anxiety (due to not breathing deeply), injuries to neck, shoulders or chest, and post-mastectomy or post-op top surgery folks. It is especially great for getting lymphatic system moving and reducing inflammation in the area. While I utilize lymphatic drainage in nearly every massage, here it's helpful as bras often restrict lymphatic flow which can cause it's own set of issues. I have specialized in women's bodywork for over 18 years because of a gap in non-invasive modalities and education when it comes to women's health (whether cis, trans or nonbinary) and I have found it powerful work when done in a safe, trauma informed environment.
