Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS)

Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) ACRS offers hope, opportunity and voice in over 40 languages and dialects to over 26,000 people across our community.

ACRS promotes social justice and the well-being and empowerment of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other underserved communities – including immigrants, refugees, and American-born. We provide one door, through which Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders of many generations -- immigrant, refugee, or American born -- can find the resources they need. ACRS works to transform the lives of families and individuals by helping people feed their loved ones, find jobs, access resources, gain English language, computer and job seeking skills, become American citizens, recover from addiction, and achieve mind and body wellness. We serve seniors and people with disabilities, and connect youth with job training and leadership development opportunities while ensuring that they and their families receive the support they need to succeed in a new land. ACRS supports Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and other underserved populations with advocating on behalf of themselves and their communities about issues that matter most to them.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Melissa Miranda of Musang Seattle, recently named a top chef by Eater. Beyond the accolades, Musang showed up for our community when it mattered most, feeding people through their community kitchen during the pandemic. So proud to uplift partners who lead with heart, culture, and generosity. ❤️🔥

Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) is deeply troubled by the recent fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis and by a separate incident in Portland in which federal immigration agents wounded two people. These related events reflect a troubling pattern of the use of force, abuse of power, and disregard for human life by federal immigration authorities across the country. Last year, a record number of 32 individuals died under ICE custody.

The use of lethal force by federal authorities raises urgent and serious concerns about safety, accountability, and lack of guardrails for this administration’s anti-immigrant agenda. Every day, immigrant and refugee communities, particularly those who already experience heightened fear, trauma, and barriers to care, are paying the price.

We urge policymakers to take immediate action by closely scrutinizing the use of federal resources and rejecting FY2026 funding decisions that expand or perpetuate immigration enforcement practices that put lives at risk.

You can advocate alongside us and urge your Members of Congress to refuse additional funding for ICE and CBP here: https://bit.ly/3YHPO38

We remain committed to advocating for policies that protect the safety, stability, and well-being of not only the individuals and families we serve but all vulnerable communities.

Last Friday, ACRS was honored to welcome University of Washington President Robert J. Jones for his first visit to ACRS since his appointment in September.

More than 60 community leaders from Asian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities gathered in our community-built gym for an evening of connection and conversation, many meeting President Jones for the first time.

The evening also featured UW Regent Blaine Tamaki, the longest-serving Regent and a longtime advocate for ANH/PI communities.

We’re grateful to create space for relationship-building grounded in community, equity, and shared purpose.

Dozens of citizenship interviews in Seattle have been abruptly canceled, impacting lawful permanent residents from countries not on the travel ban. ACRS Director of Employment & Citizenship Services, Alexandra Olins, speaks to the fear and uncertainty these unexplained delays are causing for people who have already waited years to become U.S. citizens.

Naturalization interviews for green card holders in Washington have been canceled in recent weeks amid the Trump administration's widening immigration crackdown.

Last night, ACRS gathered with community for a moving screening of "Rosemead" at AMC Pacific Place, in partnership with The Seattle Times Mental Health Project. It was an evening that reminded us why sharing stories, especially the hard ones, matters.

Starring Lucy Liu, the film follows the true story of a Chinese immigrant mother navigating her teenage son’s schizophrenia diagnosis—and the stigma that so often surrounds mental health in Asian American communities.

Following the screening, we were honored to be part of a thoughtful panel featuring the journalist whose reporting inspired the film, the young lead actor, and ACRS’s Dillon Nishimoto (LICSW), Population Health & Quality Manager. The intimate and powerful conversation was moderated by Naomi Ishisaka, social justice columnist for The Seattle Times, and sparked meaningful dialogue around Asian American mental health, stigma, and care.

ACRS staff were also onsite sharing resources and connecting with community members throughout the evening.

Thank you to everyone who showed up with openness and care. If you can, we encourage you to see Rosemead—it’s a powerful film that opens up important conversations about mental health, family, and care.
