Understanding Total Elbow Replacement Surgery A total elbow replacement is typically a last resort treatment option for patients whose elbow injuries have not responded to other solutions, or whose injuries are too severe for less invasive procedures to be effective. To complete an elbow replacement, a surgeon removes the damaged elbow joint and replaces it with an artificial one made from either titanium or chrome-cobalt alloy, restoring the individual’s range of motion and eliminating the source of pain. If you have been diagnosed with tennis elbow your main objective is to eliminate any pain and strengthen the muscles of your forearm and wrist allowing flexibility (and pain-free) movement again. The use of exercises improves the blood flow to tendons and this helps in the healing process. Below are some easy exercises for you to follow, but you may also have to think about what is causing the tennis elbow and look at changing your tennis stroke or the other activities that are causing it to flare up. The elbow is the joint in our body which allows movements like bending and straightening, in a hinge-like way. It also allows the forearm to rotate, allowing the palm of the hand to turn up and down. It is a complex joint which is made up of the three bones in the arm, the upper arm bone called the humerus which extends from the shoulder down to the elbow. [ 781 more words ]

Vague descriptions, and almost identical symptoms and treatments, medical professionals sometimes have difficulty diagnosing shoulder injuries. Unless the injury is undeniably transparent, like a break or fracture, identifying the condition will take a bit of investigation and elimination. Taking into account patient history, how the injury occurred, and a physical examination may help to narrow down a diagnosis or, at minimum eliminate could-be diagnoses. [ 459 more words ]

Sleep should be restful, comfortable, and rejuvenating. Yet, many are lacking the necessary amount of sleep for top productivity. Why? Many factors interrupt or hinder a good night’s rest – stress, insomnia, bad habits, and physical issues, such as rotator cuff pain. Yes, that is correct. Rotator cuff injuries can cause sleepless nights, although the body is at rest. That said, the next obvious step is determining how to… [ 452 more words ]

One of the most flexible and mobile joints in the human body, the shoulder has an extensive range of motion. It’s involved in a tremendous variety of actions performed by the arms and hands, such as adduction, abduction, flexion, extension, internal and external rotation, and circumduction. Think reaching for and operating a computer mouse; washing your hair; lifting the trash bag from the trash can; swinging a golf club; doing push-ups; or opening a car door. [ 441 more words ]

On a daily basis we expect and demand our shoulders to perform. Whether vacuuming or playing sports, our shoulders are involved in nearly every movement. For this very reason, our shoulders are prone to strain, stress, and injury. All can lead to pain, stiffness, and soreness. Some also experience popping sounds with associated pain, which is one of the most common and difficult issues to diagnose. [ 452 more words ]

While we all might experience painless clicking or cracking of the shoulder at sometime in our lives, considered a common phenomenon (the cause of which is not exactly known but it is thought to be caused by sudden pressures in the joints), painful clicking or popping of the shoulder is more likely to be of a pathological nature causing inflammation, stiffness and mobility problems in the more extreme cases.
