Way back when Oliver gave me permission to take these photos and then said - oh my god, please don’t post those, they are terrible. I would have never posted these, except Oliver taught me something, he’s published photos of me indirect violation of our agreement with no penalty because he found an obscure Washington law that said, when information is for public good, consent doesn’t matter. He said our program, which he doesn’t mention for public good, falls into that.
I think that it’s for the good of the public to know about a journalist with predatory behaviours. Oliver came to our home to have us be a part of his big project, not to become his project. I specifically told him my fears of people coming, taking photos and publishing them wherever and however they wanted. My fears that images of our guests would be plastered on the internet….
He did just that, doubled down, tripled down and continues to do it. He’s working to make a documentary on his time here- with consent he gained from folks for his school project- NOT a film, not for the world press, not for blogs or magazines.
Photographers need to hold their community accountable, filmmakers- you too. His predatory behavior turned into acts of violence- seeing my image all over the internet has been a complete violation of my trust, our agreement and of this space he was welcomed into.
Oliver Farshi is a dangerous predator in the world of journalism. He takes a great photo, but at what cost.
