“One of the great challenges for modern humanity is to learn how to slow down.”
Slowing down didn’t come naturally to me.
I’d always been a mover, a dancer, a busy body, an overachiever and over committer.
I’d always felt like there’s never enough time in the day to get “it” all done.
Rushing here and there, eating on the go, always trying to squeeze in one last thing before bed…
Only “resting” when my body would body bring me to a complete halt.
Debilitating period pain, sinus infections the would drag on for weeks, fatigue so heavy I would sleep my Saturday’s away.
It wasn’t until discovering Menstrual Cycle Awareness that I truly came to understand - and accept - that not only was it okay to slow down, but in fact essential.
The pace I was living at wasn’t sustainable.
My body was literally screaming at me month, after month, after month and yet I ignored it, silenced it with pain killers and just pushed on through to the next thing like a freight train with no brakes.
It was Menstrual Cycle Awareness helped me finally realize something had to change.
And for that I am forever grateful.
Slowing down is something that I value deeply now, it’s a non-negotiable, and my favorite form of self-nourishment.
But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy.
It’s a daily practice for me, and what that practice looks like changes day-to-day depending where I’m at in my cycle, what season we’re in and what the moon is in her monthly cycle.
Today, it looked like taking a few minutes on my morning walk with my pup to stop, close my eyes and just feel the sun on my face.
Simple, natural, and oh so delightful!
What’s your favorite way to slow down?
