✨️ I have been waiting a long time to make this post. You all ask me at your appointments, so dearly, how am I doing. There were many months that I was holding back this precious information and decided not to tell you. I am not the best at keeping secrets, to be honest. I love living closely to the people I love, in part because this type of sharing makes our human experience matter. But I think I was nervous that this all wouldn't pan out, and honestly, that it was too good to be true! πŸ₯Ή

Sasquatch and I shared the same vision with this book. It was at the heart of the mission that I have been teaching since 2017 to help people understand the basics of herbalism and to be able to use it in their homes on their own. πŸ–€ It's been a dream of mine since I was teeny to be an author, and although I would call myself a writer as I've been writing my whole life, this hits differently to be able to share something with you that is the culmination of many years of work. πŸ₯²

This book is a little encyclopedia of herbal remedies - I created 100 remedies that you can make at home for common ailments. Something I found many books do not do is to help you understand how you can use remedies across multiple ailments and have a great index to help you find things. I picked a little over 50 herbs (omg, it was so difficult to pare these down!), to use and mix. I really hope this can be helpful for you and your loved ones to use at home! πŸ–€πŸŒΏ

The release date is Dec. 2nd and my book (crazy to say this) is available for pre-order on Amazon, but if you would like a signed copy instead, please message me and I'll add you to the pre-order list! 🌿 Thank you to Sasquatch for making my dreams come true and for being such an incredible team to work with. Thank you to all my patients and students, whom this book wouldn't be possible without your support in all the ways! Thanks also to Amanda Keys for the beautiful illustrations for this book (I can't wait for you to see!). Stay tuned for events and classes in the coming months! βœ¨οΈπŸŒΏπŸ–€ .key

People often ask me how I choose acupuncture points. It depends on the case! πŸ“ I ask questions to start the process and get an idea of a diagnosis for you. Once we finish my that, I use palpation methods (touch) to feel areas of the body, to see where energy is stuck, to see what muscles are tight! Then I usually pick points based on my diagnosis and may add points if they correspond with any pain or areas of stickiness, or maybe no needles in the area that's bothering you at all! 🀯 When you see me regularly, I also see how you have been doing, what progress we are making and change the session points based on this as well. This picture, as an example, the person could be having back pain, or issues with the kidneys or bladder, or stuckness in that area! There are lots of different ways to treat in Chinese medicine and a lot of them work! I find it so fascinating still. πŸ₯° Thank you to my model here and Janna for the pics!

Happy Autumn Equinox to you πŸ‚ This is the time of the Metal element in Chinese medicine. The organs associated with it are the lung and large intestine. We breathe in clear Qi and process that energy through our body. The lung system in TCM rules over the skin and essentially the immune system. 🫁 The large intestine is the great eliminator of the body, so what goes in and is unused goes out! This elimination process is also very important for our system to work properly, which also ties to emotions as well (nobody is happy if they're not eliminating properly!). πŸ˜‚ Grief is the emotion of Metal, and this can be a heavy processing time for people I have found. Do some deep breathing exercises, listen to Insight Timer and take some extra spacing out time, notice where your breath gets stuck (deep breathing can also really help your digestive system!). 🩢 Dryness is the climate associated with this time, to avoid it eat moistening foods and herbs like squash, cucumber, seaweed, corn, and lettuce. 🌿 I love marshmallow leaf at this time and soothing oats, dandelion or burdock root. 🀍 Good time for acupuncture and herbs to balance yourself with the season! 🀍 Photo by Janna at

Stationary vs. Moving cups! πŸ”₯ I do Traditional Chinese fire cupping in my office, and this photo is an example of what stationary cups would look like - I heat the glass and it creates a suction to stick onto your skin and suck up the tissue! πŸ”₯ If you have ever received cupping from me, you have felt me moving some of these cups around - that is moving cupping! πŸ”₯ I usually leave a couple cups on and move one cup around so I can find other areas of stagnation and will often use the cup almost like a gua sha and help release and relax any cold or stagnant blood. Some people don't like the feeling, but most do! It's also good to tell your provider how things went after the session: did you feel less pain, looser, lighter (in your body and mood)? Or did you feel crappy, wiped out, like you overexercised or like you're coming down with something. If the answer is the second one, cupping might not be right for you at this time, and we may need to do more nourishing things like moxa and heat. ❀️ Photo by ❀️

It's tea season 😌🍡 (well every season is tea season for me haha). I always have some prepared teas ready to buy and go when you're here, but sometimes I have some on the shelf in jars that I either haven't bagged or there wasn't room πŸ˜‚ You can always ask me for a special blend, and I can always make you a tailored herbal regiment for your condition, but I make these prepared teas so that if you just want something nice to drink to calm your nerves, help you sleep or soothe your tummy, I got you! 🍡✨️ (This is a sweet old pic from the old office by ❀️)

A new seasonal offering for you: herbal compress cosmetic acupuncture sessions 🌿🀍 This is a facial and body acupuncture session followed by this warming, herbal compress massaged on your face, neck and upper shoulders. 🀍 These are a blend of Thai and Chinese herbs, I have a few different kinds and will choose based on your skin needs (Ginger, turmeric, lime, galangal, coffee...). 🀍 When your session is over, you will get a big cup of herbal tea (chosen by me, approved by you) to take home with you in a compostable cup and you will also get your poultice to take home and reuse as many times as it will last! 🍡 I just have a handful of these poultices available, and once they're gone I am not sure I will get any more! You can book directly on the website, this is a 90 minute session. 🀍🌿

How does cosmetic acupuncture work? ✨️ Tiny acupuncture needles are inserted into the skin which brings blood and oxygen to the face; these are little microtraumas bring a healing response to the area signaling your tissue to change! We are also doing acupuncture; these points are real acupuncture points which help with circulation, moving stagnation and relaxing the muscles! ✨️ It will enhance collagen production and tighten the tissue as well. πŸ’–It's pretty magical and it's also science! I love Chinese medicine! βœ¨οΈπŸ˜ŒπŸ’–

We are in Chinese medicine calls "Late Summer". πŸŒ… This time of year is exciting to me as I feel the sizzle of summer starting to die down... I am ready for some cooler days! This time lasts until almost the autumn equinox in September. It's a good time to plan for Fall: begin to slow down a little bit, listen to what your body needs (a little more rest and sleep, little less sugar and more nourishment, saying "no", starting to introduce more warming foods again). 🧑 I have been enjoying a very slow summer anyway, more reading in bed than I planned and less time outside than I planned, and I'm okay with that 😊 photo by Janna at 🧑

LU7 & LI4 ✨️ Lung 7 - in Chinese this point means "broken sequence" which has several meanings: it's a break of line on the lung channel, but (according to our big textbook by Deadman) it also has to do with lightning and an ancient term for it. When we needle this point, you often get a buzzing, ZING sensation. It benefits the descending action of the lung, and I find patients often exhale and release a little with this point. Stored grief releases in many ways: some people tear up when we needle this, some exhale, some get very uncomfortable because that's maybe not something their body is quite ready to do. πŸ’– Large intestine 4, or He gu, is the source point for the large intestine channel. It's one of my favorite acupuncture points because it does so much, mainly moving of Qi - I use it a lot for pain, headaches, redness in the face or eyes, and to release beginning symptoms of a cold (certain types). 🀯 I find it moves a lot, and can also be kind of zingy when we needle it. I use this combo in Facial Rejuvenation: to open up the face, release and relax πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰

I made some simple cornbread muffins with blackberries for Lugnahsah this week after seeing post about theirs (which I am going to try next!) 🌽 ❀️ This is just Bob's Redmill gluten-free cornbread mix, got some fresh blackberries and threw those in there. πŸ˜‹ Plop some butter and local honey and voila! 🍯 I love celebrating the change of season by baking something special for myself and ancestral remembrance. ❀️ Do you have any rituals for the changing of the season?

Cupping for summer burnout ✨️ Is this a thing? Sort of..not really, but yes πŸ˜‚ Many of my patients have been telling me how busy they are. Burnt out from the summer, but no one has said it this way. So many events, weddings, plans, late nights, camping, picnics, parties... when do you replenish? If your answer is fall/winter, think again, because beginning of September is when I see more folks getting sick! Every. Year. πŸ™ƒ Take some time this month and slot yourself out some self care time, whether it's a day off or just a few hours to just and lounge, sit in a park, catch up on some rest. Call it your "being" day, to do nothing, to get bored. You will never regret slowing down. ❀️
