Dr. Chris Bundy, Executive Medical Director of the Washington Physicians Health Program, will present "Controlled Substances: Keeping Yourself and Your Colleagues Safe" to first-year anesthesiology residents at UW Medicine this evening.

This session will explore the potential impact of controlled substances on the well-being of residents, colleagues, and patients. Dr. Bundy will also highlight resources and strategies for maintaining a supportive and safe environment.

Throughout this process, many medical students face significant stress that can impact their overall wellbeing. Acknowledging these unique challenges is the first step toward creating a healthier, more sustainable healthcare workforce.

To explain why it can be difficult for medical students to seek support and help lay the foundation for creating an effective self-care plan, Dr. Chris Bundy, Executive Medical Director of the Washington Physicians Health Program, is presenting "The Sick Physician" to students at the University of Washington School of Medicine - WWAMI this afternoon.

Dr. Laura Moss, Associate Medical Director of the Washington Physicians Health Program (WPHP), will present this afternoon at All GME Day hosted by WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in Spokane, Wash.

During this presentation, Dr. Moss will review health conditions that may impact trainees, define physician impairment, and describe how WPHP can serve as a resource for trainees and attendings in Washington.

As part of Spokane Teaching Health Center's Systems of Medicine series, Dr. Laura Moss, Associate Medical Director of the Washington Physicians Health Program (WPHP), presented on wellness and impairment to residents in Spokane, Wash., this morning.

In this presentation, Dr. Moss explored risk factors for burnout, depression, and substance use disorders in physicians, defined physician impairment and the circumstances that might raise concerns for impairment, and discussed resilience-supporting resources, including WPHP.

Our History

The Washington Physicians Health Program was founded in 1986 by a group of concerned members of the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) who represented the “Committee on Personal Problems of Physicians.” The WSMA initially established the Washington Monitored Treatment Program with both the legislative and financial foundation to function as an independent, nonprofit organization. In 1993, the name was changed to the Washington Physicians Health Program. WPHP is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization under contract with the Department of Health to provide services for healthcare professionals. Virtually all hospitals, medical groups, dental groups, and veterinary groups in the state of Washington are well acquainted with WPHP’s staff, mission, and outcomes.
