The Washington Physicians Health Program (WPHP) has an outstanding employment opportunity for a full-time 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧. This non-exempt role supports WPHP’s Quality Assurance team operations and Clinical team as needed.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, knowledge of continuous improvement procedures, ability to analyze and interpret clinical data and work with clinical data systems to create reports, strong organizational skills with attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

The Washington Physicians Health Program (WPHP) is presenting "WPHP & Physician Health" to providers at Providence health system St. Peter Hospital today. This presentation will define impairment in health professionals, describe early warning signs and systemic barriers that delay help-seeking and contribute to a culture of silence in healthcare, and outline the process by which WPHP assists health professionals.

🩺 Today is Health Workforce Well-Being Day – a valuable opportunity to acknowledge the prevalence of burnout, mental health struggles, and stress amongst health workers, as well as the need for solutions to address these critical issues.

No matter your role in the healthcare landscape, the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation has outlined several ways you can take action to support health workers' mental health and well-being.

In addition to implementing these action items, the Washington Physicians Health Program invites members of the Washington healthcare community dedicated to health worker well-being to attend the Federation of State Physician Health Programs (FSPHP) 2026 Conference and Annual Membership Meeting – Navigating Change: Challenges, Solutions, and Success from April 29 - May 2, 2026, in Baltimore, Md.

This event is a special opportunity for Physician Health Programs, healthcare leaders, physicians, and stakeholders nationwide to collaboratively build a strong foundation of safety, support, and well-being for health workers and the patients they care for.

Dr. Laura Moss, Associate Medical Director of the Washington Physicians Health Program, is presenting "Finding Calm in Stormy Seas" as part of the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA)'s Legal Lunchbox™ Series later this month. In this session, Dr. Moss will share her recovery story to normalize and encourage seeking support, summarize data about healthcare and legal professionals utilizing findings from the WSBA Well-Being Survey, and describe resources that can support resilience, well-being, and recovery.

Published by the American Society of Addiction Medicine - ASAM, a new resource provides an overview of best practices for identifying, treating, and supporting safety‑sensitive workers with Alcohol Use Disorder.

Dr. Chris Bundy, Executive Medical Director of the Washington Physicians Health Program and Chief Medical Officer of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs (FSPHP), and Dr. Paul Earley, Past President of FSPHP and Medical Director Emeritus of the Georgia Professional Health Program, contributed their expertise to “Supporting Safety-sensitive Workers with Alcohol Use Disorder.” Drawing on established evidence, professional health program protocols, and the unique clinical considerations involved in caring for individuals whose work impacts public safety, the document outlines key components of assessment, treatment, long‑term monitoring, and recovery support.

This resource was made possible through collaboration with the Providers Clinical Support System and funding by SAMHSA.

The Washington Physicians Health Program presented "Hiding in Plain Sight: Identifying and Addressing Addiction in Healthcare Professionals" today at the Providence health system Fundamentals of Addiction Medicine Conference in Tulalip, Wash.

This presentation summarized the unique risk factors and contributors to addiction in medical professionals, stated the effect of substance use on practice performance as well as barriers to identification and treatment, and described resources to assist physicians struggling with addiction.

🩺 𝐖𝐏𝐇𝐏 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐀𝐂𝐆𝐌𝐄 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 🩺

Courtney Strong, MA, LMHC, SUDP, Clinical Director of the Washington Physicians Health Program (WPHP), attended the 2026 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Annual Educational Conference on Feb. 19-21 in San Diego, Calif. Nearly 5,000 attendees gathered at the world’s largest graduate medical education (GME) event to engage in educational sessions and strengthen professional connections in the field of academic medicine.

The conference theme, “Meaning in Medicine,” highlighted the importance of sustaining purpose and joy, promoting well-being, and fostering collaboration in the vital work of health care professionals and educators.

In support of this theme, Ms. Strong presented “Helping the Impaired Resident: Addressing Myths of Physician Health Programs (PHPs)” with Byron Joyner, MD, MPA, Vice Dean of Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official at the University of Washington School of Medicine - WWAMI (UWSOM), and Cindy Hamra, JD, MA, FACHE, Associate Dean for Administration and Finance in the GME Office at UWSOM.
