How To Go Outside

I can’t see what’s coming
I can’t hear the tanks
Rolling over green fields
Crushing the creatures that make a life there
Compressing beautiful soil
Leaving heavy tracks
Clouds of exhaust
I see it hear it on my screens every day
The grasping for power
The schemes the orders the photo ops
…..
In my house
The ginger cat sunbathes
Everyone was fed this morning
And we will eat again soon
On my street
Squirrels and small birds
Are on a treasure hunt
It is very quiet
There’s a small breeze
…..
I have the privilege
I can choose right now
Savor the peace
Be nourished and soothed
By the world on my street
In my house
Soothe and calm my nerves
…..
I can be so much stronger then
Sturdy and willing and able
To send out ripples
Care and concern and outrage
To add my energy my outlook my musings my creations
To this cacophonous burgeoning chaotic
Hopeful fearful wise ignorant
Human experiment
…..
I can’t see what’s coming
The forecasts the predictions my imaginings
Just a spell a story a dream
I CAN see the ginger cat
Round belly
The picture of inner calm
While whiskers scan
Pay attention to that sweet tender message
Be nourished be fed be calm
When I venture outside

About avoidance:

“It is not fear that stops you from doing the brave and true thing in your daily life. Rather the problem is avoidance.
You want to feel comfortable so you avoid doing or saying the thing that will evoke fear and other difficult emotions. Avoidance will make you feel less vulnerable in the short run but it will never make you feel less afraid.”
~Harriet Lerner

What might you need to increase your capacity for vulnerability?

I wish for courage and strength for all of us this year. Can we dare to pursue what we long for?
I read this today:

While vulnerability is the birthplace of many of the fulfilling experiences we long for—
love, belonging, joy, creativity, and trust, to name a few—
the process of regaining our emotional footing in the midst of struggle is where our courage is tested and our values are forged.
Rising strong after a fall is how we cultivate wholeheartedness in our lives; it’s the process that teaches us the most about who we are.

The Timeline of Tears

They are still drying
Soft raindrops that collected
On curving broad leaves

Grieving a loss or an injury carries its own pain. It also has its own timeline and path. An expressway straight to the heart of you, or sometimes a meandering path that keeps looping back.
That’s just how it is, this living, this loving.
May you find what you need while it unfolds.
