Artists across mediums share a common goal: to move and inspire. For her senior thesis, graphic designer and musician Beia Smith-Shaw set out to merge both worlds by designing a new typeface, Headliner, that weaves rhythm, harmony, and movement into letterforms.

She showcased her project in a Blurb layflat book, presenting "Headliner" at full scale—just as it was meant to be seen: "Design isn't as successful unless you have it in a physical form. I think print is vital to making sure we have a human connection with design and art."

Could you walk up to someone you've never met, start a conversation, and leave with a photo? That was the challenge Ian Butler set for himself. The result? "100 Strangers," a book of portraits that captures humanity at its most raw and authentic.

Created in the aftermath of the pandemic, this project became more than a test of courage. "It was a way to document the resilience and humanity that emerged as we navigated a new chapter," explains Butler.

"100 Strangers" stands as both a personal milestone for Butler and an inspiring reminder to photographers everywhere: Growth comes when we push past fear and open ourselves to the world around us.

“In today’s social media-driven world, it’s easy to get caught up in chasing likes and views," says Rafid Naeem, photographer, videographer, and creative director. "Making my book reminded me why I started in the first place. It allowed me to reconnect with my passion and capture photos for myself again instead of an algorithm.”

Since that first 2021 travel book, Naeem has created a number of Blurb books, including "JAPAN," documenting a long-awaited journey with nine friends. His project became more than a keepsake—it became the hero book in our 20th anniversary anthem video, part of .

“Creating books used to be complicated and inaccessible, but Blurb has truly revolutionized the self-publishing space,” he says. “It has empowered artists by giving them an easy and accessible way to share their stories through a tangible and physical format.”

Spanish-Swedish photographer Christelle Enquist didn’t set out to build an exhibition or lead a creative community when she made her first Blurb book.

Her debut publication, "East to West," began as a personal project and evolved into a full exhibition in Spain, opening the door to a new world of tangible creativity.

As co-founder of The Raw Society, a global community for street, travel, and documentary photography, Enquist now helps others discover that same creative agency through photography and bookmaking. (And yes, their workshops use Blurb too.)

Most recently, that vision has grown into something even bigger: the upcoming Raw Photo Fest—The Raw Society’s first-ever international photography festival, launching in Menorca, Spain, May 7–10, 2026, with over 20 exhibitions, talks, community events and, of course, a book fair, bringing together some of the most influential voices in contemporary photography.

“Blurb democratized publishing,” she says. “It gave independent creators the tools to share their work without needing a traditional publisher. That freedom has opened doors for so many voices, especially in photography, design, and art, that might not have been heard otherwise.”

Enquist joins us on October 2 for Why We Make Books: On Story, Craft, and Connection—a live panel celebrating 20 years of Blurb and exploring the future of storytelling.
