Ok so, the world is going through some major shifts right now. Later this week, Venus will es**rt Uranus into tropical Gemini, cementing this rapid shift in the collective toward the diurnal energies — thought, consciousness, etc. We’re gonna need more than reductive, critical thinking to get through these next 7-8 years of the funhouse of perception. Probably a good time to get those muscles working, so I’m doing a thing.

I’m brining together all my obsessions — astrology, poetry, mythology, ecology — under one banner. To start, I’ll be sharing some regular ritual and writing exercises as well as thoughts from my research and teaching. Right now, that involves a deep dive into 8th century Persian astrologer Abu Ma’shar, a new iteration of my Poet as Radio lab through the focused on writing as divination, and always readings from the (more than material) esoteric end of science. At its most basic, this 5-week poetics lab, I’m teaching this fall for is about exercises in listening to the world around you. There’s so much coming through every hour that we fail to recognize because of socialization or our ego. My job in these 5 weeks is to give you a safe-enough space, a few ideas and examples, and maybe even permission to let go of your inner editor and to truly surprise yourself with what you can tap into and work with every day. Many thanks to the folks at TIMBER for publishing this recent excerpt from my long hybrid piece, “River of the Inside.” I’m really enjoying all the rich work in this issue.

My piece was an attempt to use text-based divination to listen and think with the Duwamish River I live alongside. The full 60-ish page piece, part-found-prose, part-abstract-essay, part-serial-poem, will come out later this year from Carbonation Press in a full-length collection I’m titling The Outside (details coming soon)

And many thanks to the Duwamish people on whose land I co-exist and co-create with. May they prevail in their century+ long fight to have the treaties honored and the land and resources promised them back.

margin_shift Here's the beautiful Luna so full of of light, reflecting parts of ourselves that hide beneath the surface of our conscious minds. Over the next two weeks, we'll be wrapping up one cycle that began with the solar eclipse on April 20 as well as another that began in May of 2022, when the eclipses in Ta**us and Scorpio kicked off. These next two weeks are a great time to do as Luna does and reflect. Reflect on what has changed for you the last 18-ish months, particularly the last 6 months. I’m blessed to live in a house oriented to the sun’s path, so that, despite the perennial cloud cover of the PNW, I can see the 7 visible planets move through the great wheel. These next few weeks, dusk and dawn will be presided over by our planetary benefactors — Venus, in bright “morning star” regalia, and Jupiter shining bright over our dreams. Here’s Venus shining bright out my back door to remind me of abundance and beauty and the return of the bright sunlight of day.

Over the next few weeks/months I’ll be coming back to this space to talk about this great wheel in the sky through the cycle of Jupiter and Uranus, how these two aspects of the divine help us to break out of what overwhelms us, what seems intractable, fated (in the negative sense), and oppressive.

If you can these next few weeks, wherever you are, get outside when there’s some clear skies, about an hour before dawn or an hour after sunset, look up and see these great moving lights that are a reflection of the divine in you, the part of yourself that has your back no matter the circumstances.

Joining will be AI ethicist De Kai ( ) and astrologer Jenn Zahrt ( ). We’ll be talking about astrology as the first data science as well as what the practice of astrology can teach us about data and vice versa.

6 months of unemployment and quarantine may have temporarily tampered with my antenna, but it’s back online, and what better archetype to tune into than the .

When we get caught playing elaborate balancing acts with all our commitments, we can get depleted and zone out on the practical planning for the future. The rabbits as talisman remind us to re-engage with the daily discipline our spiritual practices in order to discover those rabbit holes that tap us back into awe and wonder, bring us back into a personal relationship with the cosmos. When you see this card remember that you and all of nature are in this together. It’s time to dig into the everyday with rigor and expectancy and devotion. The ritual will guide you back and bring vitality.

It’s Venus’ last day in exaltation in Pisces, so I’m preparing an altar and ritual to carry the Venusian energy through her detriment in Aries, where she’ll make the last superior conjunction with the Sun there for another 8 years. That will take place on Friday, March 26. It’s the end of a cycle that began in March, 2013. Take some time tonight to savor the beautiful and sublime, and to stoke the flames of love, and May Venus bring you much more in return.
