Please help us to keep providing care for these lovely pets!
We are hoping all of the folks reading this post will help out if they are able. It's a very doable ASK if we all do just a little.
Tomasz Biernacki and I just released another 'YouKnowMeNow' podcast, a discussion about the unsheltered and their pets.
The woman we interviewed is Lora Troncoso. Her life story is a compelling one. It includes teenage homelessness, a long working career, falling back into homelessness due to illness, and finally back into stable housing for her, her partner, and their dogs.
From those experiences, Lora founded the nonprofit 'Seattle Dogs Homeless Program'. She offers to those experiencing homelessness with pets free access to pet-food, boarding, and medical services. It is phenomenal what she is doing for those in need, both for the pets and their owners.
Greenwood Animal Hospital allows Lora to refer pets to them who are living with unsheltered owners. They give Seattle Dogs a good discount and allow her to run an open tab so that emergency situations can be addressed.
Here is the ASK. Lora's account is at $17,000.00 owed. It is creating a good deal of stress for her. I want to believe that together, all of us chipping in what we can, we can make that go away.
Lora also has Stage 4 Liver Disease, which is terminal. She is quick to tell you she is not a drinker, never has been. She got it from Hep-C which went unchecked because insurance would not pay for the treatment. That's another story. 🙁
